With the new 3 hole case, you will not have to send it back.

I also wish the wiring was easier. That soldering is not as clean as the MMM

How long is it taking to get the Grid mounts from Canada?

Mine took less than a week. Pretty quick from CA, IMO.

The soldering is one thing I really dislike about the RX8. I'd much rather have connectors like the MMM.

Any pictures of the new and old Grid logo?

Soldering is a piece of cake. Follow this video and it will never be a problem. Those posts also act as heat sinks.

Grid is in Toronto Canada. And scroll up Billy. Pics are posted, I think on the last page.

So that's been 7 days so far. I'm expecting 10-12 business days.

Soldering is easy, no doubt, but not as clean as connectors, IMO. I still find it interesting that RC has so many connectors that rely on solder for the electrical and mechanical connection (eg Deans, Traxxas, etc). I hardly see any crimping except for servo connectors.

I never soldered any connections during my time in the military. Everything was crimped and sealed. Same goes for most race cars. Not much wiring is soldered.

Do you guys usually cover the RX8 posts with shrink?

Also, sorry to hear you guys are waiting so long for the mounts. Mine came pretty quick.

No, do not cover them with shrink wrap. That can take away the heat dissipation capability. That is part of why I do not like the connectors so much. Seeing those even with shrink wrap over the bullets looks like too much movement with the possibility of them touching together. Soldered there really is not room for movement. I only have one system in an sct with bullets and they have been good so far though. I am not taking my systems and swapping motors out either, so I do not need that flexibility. The bullets just make the wiring look bulky to me. Nothing better than a direct connection. I was also in the military and higher end electonic connectors are soldered and not crimped. My better solder skills were learned through 2m micro miniature training while in the Navy. Depends on the field that you specialized in.

As for shipping, just remember that customs has no rush to get things done. It's not the shippers fault.

At the board level sure.....but crimp is the preferred method at connectors.

Questions??

What kind of connectors did you work on that were soldered? I was an aircraft electrician in the TXARNG. I mostly dealt with cannon plugs and wire repair. Everything was crimped.

Almost everything I've worked with on my track car has been crimped with the exception of the connectors for my digital dash. It used a very small DIN like connector for use with 22ga and 24ga wire (those solder cups were small!).

I also don't like the use of bullet connectors for the motor for the reason you describe. I just would like the RX8 to have the same type of connectors used on the MMM (the bullet connectors are on the ESC itself).
