Hi Houston, great thread you have going here. I have been reading threw from the start but figured I would just post my question up to maybe get my answer sooner then later LOL. I am looking to make the move from onroad to offroad, I currently race with the Mugen MTX4R with the 2009 Novarossi 353 powerplant. I was lucky enough to win the championship at my local track with this combination and have no interest in running anything else no matter what I am racing. That said I am looking to get into the 1/8 racing scene with either the Mugen MBX6 or the MBX6T as I am unsure which to go with at this point, what I am looking to go with for the powerplant is the Novarossi Toro Nero Team Edition engine. What I would like to know is if I am going in the correct direction with my engine choice, or if there is something better suited to what I am after. I will be racing here in Montreal, Canada at 1 of two local tracks out this way:http://fastlapracing.com/ and http://www.rcoffroaddrummond.com/liens.htm

I would recommend p5xlt w/9853/41021 or 41005 in your case for truggy , plus 21-4C or C "team" for buggy with 9901/41021 or 41005 . I prefer 41005 header personally . I got the 2084ss pipes in yesterday so I will be trying those out soon .

I see alot of post were your talking about the p5xlt. Like the post above the p5xlt instead of going with the toro nero. Is there a reason why you would rather run a p5 then the toro?, I have noticed this in other post as well. What are your feelings on the toro?

do 3 heat cycles within the first tank up to 210 degrees (5 min. intervals),at idle on stand? yes
you will have to play with the low speed needle and idle adj. , use rag or sock or whatever you feel suit to cover head .
run it around gently at 210-230 (monitoring temps frequently ) careful not to let the engine get into its powerband about 1 full tank at a time (or 10 min.) , let it cool , do this for 3 tanks (cooling in between tanks), quarter throttle or so with short blips..not high?slow pulls on the throttle in 30-40ft bursts.
richen the needles a bit and run it about 180 on the track ( or street) for 3 straight tanks (or 30 min.) monitoring temps frequently leaning it out until you can start to feel the powerband (check the plug at this point and let it cool down),what am I looking for exactly on the plug ? make sure the plug still glows and looks new, if it looks all distorted pull it out as you dont want a plug filament to go through the engine .
go back out on the track,(lean out slowly) when you get it tuned in to where its not totally screaming but you have enough power to make the jumps with a slight bog at full throttle and runs at about 180 - 230° , let it cool .
go out and run the rest of the gallon til the power comes up and the temp drops instantly (i call it "dropping its nuts"). this process sometimes takes more than a full gallon . use a heat gun to heat to 200 before you start at each step

they are a good engine . they are put out by siim racing now , not sure if they are still doing well but thats the last i heard . i still have a few piston/sleeve sets , one tuned and one not.

I am using the same venturi that came stock, I'm running a 97T plug and picked up a Dynamite 053 pipe and header, and i'm in california Sea Level. Can you give me a starting point for needle settings. and possibly what the needles were stock.
I'm super fat now and i'm getting about 9-10 min can't wait to see what kind of run times i'll get with a race tune.

dont be afraid of temps in between 235-270°

plus 4 9853 401210 or what ever header they run with the 9901

the motor takes a min to fire up on the box it dose not just fire. once it dose it lean for like 3 laps and then it fine and purrs like a kitty what am i doing wrong
