yo grizz1 ..started tweaking the MG66 for performance this week..basically just went in 1/2 a turn on the hsn and it's gone nuts..and I mean truly mad..gonna be racing on sunday with a REAL light finger on the throttle..just had 2 days light rain here to lay the dust and firm up the track surface some..was getting really floury..and the forecast for tomorrow and sunday is dry/sunny but not too hot..perfect! I am so gonna kick some RB and novarossi butt!

so like Matt stated the 053 will have a tad more bottom due to it's mid range design. The 5 Ports have so much bottom end you could loose 25% of it and still have more than enough for most situations anyway and the 086 will draw more top end out the 5 Port and make it a screamer. That's gospel son! You get good mileage because you rarely use all of the top or bottom. I have my throttle travel at 70% that is all the way open. I use the stock venturi,os-p3 and am running byrons gen2 30%, the regular not pro driver. I tried the pro driver but run times dropped way off. Use the regular went way up. I also drive very easy on the throttle. I try to get the car up to a continuous speed that I can control more with throttle, then the gas and go method. The only other advice I can give you is in tuning. Every body bitches go-tecs are to hard to tune. Once you understand how to do it they are very easy to tune. And this is where the fun begins, always make sure the engine is at temp. With a go that takes about 3 tanks. The very first thing I do is set the idle at .01mm. The reason I set it so wide is when you start leaning the lsn you will notice that you will need to lower the idle.put air filter on,heat up engine with heat gun, take out fire it up drop on ground start running around. If it is way to fat I start leaning lsn from flush 1/2 turn at a time. Then run some more. Just so you can get it to keep running while you are breaking it in. If it is already broken in then do the pinch test on the fuel inlet. After you get it running good then I like to recheck the idle gap. If all that checks out then I do the hsn. the most I have ever turned one in was 3/4 of a turn from flush. Also remember that after you take out the break in shim you will need to retune the lsn more then hsn or idle.

Right on bro Glad to see the 66 is shaping up to be an animal. I will try and get some more tanks through mine this next week.
We are racing tomorrow but I will be using the trusty Stage5 5 Port. Did some practice at the track today and the 5 Port is screaming. Was getting 11.40 tank times, so quite happy with that. I popped an Answer ceramic main bearing into it the other night. Turns over smooth as silk now . You will like the ceramics when you put them in your 66. It will be even more free reving It's going to be one nasty mother of an engine Giz
We are finally getting some fine weather here too now. Still a cold southerly wind, but beautiful sunny days. Nice cool air temp for making lots of power Tomorrow the track will be in mint condition after watering tonight. Can't wait !!

yup rained enough here to make the track nice and solid but maybe a bit sticky but forecast tomorrow is for sun sun sun all day so high traction for qualifying and faster and looser in the afternoon..getting 12m56 out the MG66 now..left the 7mm insert in and tweaked it a bit..still a bit on the rich side..specially at the high top end..Had a nasty moment today..did a huge jump and on landing motor stopped dead..after a little inspection nothing seeemd to be wrong so fitted glow heater to find plug dead..took it out and the bloody filament was gone..and I mean totally gone..flushed a quantity of fuel through the motor but doesn't seem to have done any damage ..hopefully it was pretty much powder when it disintegrated...ran fine after..

WOW - 13 min with a 7 mm restrictor and slightly rich !!!! thats insane
I gotta find time to get another 10 or so tanks through the 66 in the next week. I want to see what this baby will be like when it's bedded in. I don't plan to race it until early October in a 3 day event, but I might just slip a meeting in before hand to get a handle on tuning and tank times. Ha- like I can wait that long to run it, yeah right !!

well MG66 rocked..all frikkin day..never missed a beat and only 1 stall all day too...I was in 2nd place in 1/4 finals but finished 9th overall as the track got horribly potholed as we were running 1/5 monsters on the same day and I just had the car set up too stiff once the track really broke up..bouncing all over the place..I had to richen the mix i had just leaned a bit again as after 2 tanks it started to lean bog a bit so tank times might be a little lower ..won't know till i get a chance to time one again..and I finally went back to the 13/46 rather than the 14/46 gearing..it pulled the higher ratio but just wasn't quite as vicious as I like it to be out of corners..and I really don't need the xtra top speed anyway.

and yes I believe your gonna wait grizz1..

Hi guys, someone said a few pages back that an OS # 8 plug would work ok on my 5 port. having installed one today I noticed the OS plug was atleast 15-20% shorter than the one I had in the engine already although that was running two copper washers underneath it. Ran the OS plug in my 5 port which is stil running rich, and I noticed the cooling head was much warmer than it had been with the previous plug even though it was rich and i was running around on half throttle.
Im running 20% fuel with two copper shims under the head.

will have to try and get a race tune on it to see how it performs any way. just have to wait for a new throttle servo, mine is almost dead and its sunny today aswell

We were running a 5.5mm restrictor in the buggy with the 5 port and had plenty of power, we will be using it more.

Hi Zonda..

Yep - you need a short plug such as the OS a5. A common workaround is to use a long plug with a second washer to wffectively stop the p[lug sitting too low.

Next time try and pick up a Go N3 and see how that Goes for you..

All the engines and spares have now landed in the UK so if you need anything you can get it pretty readily
