What is a good starting point for the needles on a .28 3 port?

Default Plugs

Help

I have a gen5 7port that now has about 2 gallons on it and it screams. I started to see some high temps 315+ and took the motor apart. I noticed the carb sleeve had a tick or wiggle. I then replaced the carb with an OS vspec carb that a friend had. This immediately fixed both tuning and temp problems and the motor runs really well. However, recently I have been blowing plugs after approx 3-4 tanks of running. I thought maybe I was too lean but I have a smoke trail and am temping at 180-210max. I had been using P3 plugs then tried P4 plugs and right now I am trying P6 plugs. I am running odonnel 30% and have 1 copper shim and 1 alum shim. I also sealed up the motor with blue rtv and have installed a brand new tank. I am not sure where to go from here.

Help

When are the plugs blowing? during running, or it wont fire the next time you run it. Shutting down a motor by plugging the exhaust can ruin plugs.

would this be under warranty or it's normal? I know in the first piston/sleeve/rod set I had lasted over 5 gallons and the rod was still good.
Was this a new motor or a rebuild? was the crank new?

it was rebuilt with a new gen 5 piston/sleeve/rod but like I said, after 3/4 of a gallon the bushing on the rod went out, the engine was running very good, temps around 220-240 but out of no where it just stopped and found the bushing in pieces

who can I contact about this issue?

I have had it happen both times. I plugged the exhaust to kill the motor then it would not restart. Then the most recent one I was running on the track and noticed a decrease in power, then 3/4 of the way around the track, the car died and the plug was dead.

If the crank was worn it could have caused the bushing to come apart, especially since you had to break in the new p/s. I am working on an Rb C6 right now that the same thing happened, have no idea why.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that 1 copper and 1 alum shim was 30%. If not, how much performance would I lose by adding another .1 shim? Would it even be noticable? Also if that is the case, is it worth running 30% and adding a shim or leaving it alone and running 20%. I don't know much about this stuff but I am slowly learning.

Thanks

Use the standard shims and run 25%. The Go´s run sweet on 25%, with as much power as you will need
