IIR they're about 1/8-5/32" thick. Get one of the newer foam bumpers instead--they repel impact (absorb it MUCH better than semi-rigid plastic) and support the front of the body so it lasts better too. Most likely SlapMaster has you covered.

I somewhat like the CRC kydex bumper. Unlike foam that sometimes drags the ground this stays in posistion.

I agree with Scottrik, the kydex is a lilttle hard. I would perfer something made out of molded nylon that has a lip that drops down to cover the chassis from scrapes like most TC nylon bumpers. That lip will also help transfer the impact forces evenly versus just two little screws.

Complete noob here. I have a 12 L3 that I want to get going. What size gauge wire would you recommend. I tried 12 gauge thinking bigger the better but way to big. I'm thinking 16 guauge.

Most are running 16 ga here, bendy, smaller, lighter . . .

I use a lot of 16 gauge. I have even been looking at some 18 gauge for the lighter motors.

Foam bumpers weigh roughly 4 grams vs. the substantial amount the kydex weighs.... which will change up the car's handling. Kydex bends too, just depends on the impact.... but does not support the body or prevent post hole tears. It's hard for me to be unbiased since I sell 3 colors of foam bumpers.

16 gauge is the right wire to use for 1/12th. Some like to use 14ga from the esc to the batteries, but I don't think that is necessary for anything but mod. Not all 16ga is created equal, some have really thick insulation or low strand count which makes the wire less flexible. I'm partial to my own OD Racing wire, Dean's wire is good also, and TQ drag wire (for slot cars) is ok too

how do bumpers on the 12th work, the front has so little impact area on the body, so what does it protect?

the bumper will take the force of the impact rather than your chassis or body, and believe theses bumpers do work and they will save you money in the long run. I think almost every driver at my club is now running the slapmaster bumper and our costs in replacing damaged body shells has dropped. I'm currently still running the same two body shells that are almost a year old and with my driving skills or lack of skills that is soimethink.

For those using the Novak GTB 4 cell ESC, what do I set the drive frequency for to use with the 17.5 to have punch? Right now it is soft off the line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
