Go-Tech Engines Thread
#229
I'm currently in the market for a .21 and I'm loving what I'm seeing with Go Tech. I will be buying a 5 port soon. I see on their website it says to use only OS compatible glow plugs but I was wondering which plugs do you guys run in them? are any of the MCs compatible?

I'm going to try O'Donnell 77os plugs soon.
This engine needs a short standard plug. A long plug like the MC's and others will hit the piston.

The long plugs don't reach in far enough to hit the piston, if you do use those plugs the engine will still run, but it will not run as effieciently because the plug will protrude into the dome shape of the combustion chamber. O.S. #8 is probably the closest to the Go #5.
Jumpjunkie, the engines come at the minimum shimming for 30% nitro so performance should be close at altitude, after break in (1-1.5 gallons) you may want to pull the thin shim out if you feel you need more power.

hi, i run the 7 port and i'm very pleased with it. i'm going to buy another one soon. i have'nt tried or seen the 5 port since i'm the only one in my country with go tech engine and i have some questions:
1. if there is one which is more powerful overall (7 port/5 port)?
2. how much the powerband is different?
3. what is your personal favorite (if you have the two)?
thank you,
dotan.

Satoch, the engines come with 1) .1mm shim and 1) .2mm shim
Dotan in buggy my personal favorite is the 7port, the engines are very similar since they have the same intake porting. Its hard to say which one is more powerful the 7port spins more rpms while the 5port has more torque. The difference in powerband is very noticable, the 7port is also more sensitive to pipe clutch combo then the 5port. I think it comes down to what you like on the track.

how would you suggest to break in one of these engines Ive always ran novarossi and ill be switching to the 5 port go , do i break them the same or differantly. I usually let the novarossi's idle for three and then slowly make laps on a dirt oval tuning in the power slowly for four tanks then i let her rip. Do i do this with the go???

It's best to follow the break in procedure outlined on the Racefactor Industries site for the Go: http://www.racefactorindustries.com/id1.html

You can break in the engine with any method yoru comfortable with, there are a lot of different ways to break in engines, if you choose to use the method on the racefactor website I would reccomend an extra tank of idle then whats mentioned.

I`m still having serious issies with my 5 port. The first gallon I had no issues at all.I am another half a gallon through it(1.5 gallons in total after break in).The weather got colder here.I live in SOcal so its not to cold about 60 degrees when running.Anyways I started to foul or burn plugs.I was thinking that since the temp dropped that the engine leaned out a little more and was causing my problem.Over this weekend at the North s South race I richened everything 2 hours. For practice and my first heat I had no problems. Then it came time to run my 2nd heat....dead plug again,I popped another plug in and wentto race.I had goood power and great smoke coming from the pipe, still 70 degress outside,at the end of the 5 minute heat I lost all bottom end power. The next lap around I had no power on top and bottom.I was moving like a turtle.Right after I finished the race it died.Forsure another dead plug.I threw in a new plug and it fired up.I called it quits installed a back up engine and finished the day out.I inspected the engine,I have a black piston...probably caused by over heating. The engine still still has plenty of compression and will start. What could be causing this problem.I`m going to go back to factory settings and retune. Is there something I should look for, could there be something wrong with the carb.Any advice would be appreciated.I have tuned and ran lots of engines. Why is this one giving me problems.I also placed in the amain but unfortunatley I wasn`t running the go
