Motor Testing and Comparisons
#571
Oh yeah, I'll need to gear up a few teeth vs what I typically run my G4Rs and I can temp to compare. With the closest track a 6hr round trip away it might not be the quickest info turnaround but I'll do my best lol

I need a test subject who lives around the Sacramento areas, preferably south Sacramento. I would like to tune your motor and have you race it and report, to me, what the difference is. Are there any takers? 2S off road or on-road will work. If you're willing to drive out to this area, that's fine also.

Didnt realize your in the South Sac area - greenhaven/pocket reporting in! I would offer up my motor but I am a lame sportsman (faster sportsman at least?) at the racers den running an older TORO 120A esc and Surpass V5 (non S) or a XFactor team edition. So probably not worth your time!
Enjoy your work and youtube videos - a few years ago I was doing amp vs kv/rpm on charts to try to plot where the efficiency drop offs were at. Not really sure it made a difference for me but this was all no-load testing so really not the right way to tune.
If your there tonight (2/21) look for Brian!

Thank you for watching my videos and the compliment. The V5 is a bit of an older motor, but it might be worth tuning and trying.
You know, going out to a track with my gear might not be a bad idea. I can tune them, different ways, right at the track. I'll have to check my schedule.

Yeah sorry its a Team Powers V5 (not sure why I put Surpass!) but yes its still older - I actually purchased a lightly used V5 based on StephenR test results on the dyno having a high wattage rating on his dyno.
17.5 Motor Power Output from Dyno
But again I probably am not good enough to tell if small timing changes are that much better/worse by feel as its mainly just minor temperature management changes after I do non-loaded amp/rpm checks
Feel free to PM me as well for coordination questions but I would reach out to Boris or Shawn at the Racers Den and see if they have some time on a Saturday to test with you (they both run the place and at the top in the expert stock class) or hook you up with someone that is good that is trying to get a little more out of there motor. The problem with that track is its smaller/tighter setup takes away from the lap time benefits of a few extra bits of power. Probably would be more noticeable at somewhere like AMAIN with there large carpet track.
There is an onroad and offroad carpet track in there and Saturday is most often a practice day for both tracks.

Thank you.
I'll let you know when I plan on making it out there. I might show up real early on a Friday afternoon, before the races.

Not talking about Amain having two separate tracks. Amain just has a larger track for maybe better motor testing. But yes they change it back and forth.
was talking about racers den in orangevale off hazel. It’s been there maybe about 2 years now. It has two carpet tracks one off and one on-road. If you haven’t been checkout the Facebook group racing off road Friday night and Sunday’s. Onroad racing seems hit and miss there but it’s fun to practice onroad between heats and change it up!

That would be cool as hell, I'd be first in line.

A bit off-topic but not completely though: what are the main differences between a spec 17.5 motor and an outlaw 17.5 motor ? I saw that Team Powers provides both with their Actinium V6S, but couldn't really find the main differences.
Does it come only to the rotor used ? Or there are more subtile difference embedded in the stator or the timing board ?
Thanks for the explanation !
