I ran quicker with a G4R HT epoxy than a new G5 HT in WGTR. Simply because of heat control.

Yes, I have seen a difference in heat. Especially with the R1. I guess it would also depend on the type of racing. In offroad, too much timing or gearing will take out too much torque, so jumping and accelerating out of corners became a problem. I have seen most racers gear back down to regain torque. In these instances, the new motors were taking the lead.

Over the weekend I borrowed a friends old V21 R1 21.5T while he used a V30R. He did not out-motor me.

I've also done some back to back testing of my G4R 13.5T against a G5, and lap times were the same.

I'm not convinced there's a big generational gap.

it's just a new challenge to find the best spot.

Were the temps the same, as well as the torque? Interesting. I have not tested the G5 yet. I've heard mixed feelings on it. I believe it has a narrower stator to bring up the RPM. The VR30R was not impressive. Feel it has a little more power, but it gets way too hot. I would really like to get another one and do a thorough test on timing points.

On another note, I should be getting the new Zombie in this week. It's coming from China, so...

Didn't pay too much attention to the temperature, it's cool weather over here and my temp gun has failed. Both felt like they were in the same range with the "does it burn my finger?" test. I didn't notice any difference in torque, but I'd need a dyno for that.

I'm pretty sure the stator is the same size, legally they can't make it any shorter. It's just mounted deeper in the can.

Still running a Tekin out at Auburn RC in 13.5 wheeler and am doing quite well with it. Its the Epoxy version and it legal until the end of the year so I will run it all summer and be better with the heat. I’ve already figured out heat and gearing for multiple new motors for on road asphalt and carpet. Outdoor off road hasn’t had track temperatures as high as asphalt has as of yet but I’ll be prepared for it if it does. Track temps last week hit 125 on the dirt. Getting there but not yet.

That's interesting on the V30R. I've got a few of the original V30's and a few of the V30R's and the R's all run better and have lower resistance and higher inductance than the original V30. The R ran considerably better over a four minute run that the V30 and cooler. Neither feel as good as the V21 super shorts I have over the entire run, but after a little tuning with the R it should run as good as the v21's. The last time I ran the R, it fell off after about two minutes in the first heat, so I took about two degrees of timing out and left the gear alone and it ran the entire four minutes. I felt like a couple more degrees out and then add a tooth or two and it would have been really good. I was four teeth less on the R vs. what I normally run on the V21 SS.

Not the length. I believe the diameter is smaller. I'm still waiting to get on my bench, but I'm told it is skinnier.

Someone ran the G5 at a local club the other week and it wasn't that great at all, he had no speed at all compared to his other motor.

I've just checked the diameter and it's the same as well

That's good to know. It must have been a prototype that the guy was looking at. This was back in March that I heard this. He had direct info from a motor designer from HW.

It would be weird for a prototype to have a different diameter, since the diameter is controlled pretty tight by the ROAR specs. Are you sure it wasn't an outlaw motor he was looking at?

I was told it like the SpeedZone motor. It looks like a fat stator, but it's a standard diameter stator with smaller diameter endbells to match the diameter of the stator.

Are you going to be at the Racers Den tomorrow (Friday) night? I'm going to try and stop by. My son might even bring his buggy to race it.
