Question about the super short big bore dampers, I've been having a hard time trying to make them leak free. I've tried x-rings, shims and green slime, but nothing really works. Pressing the SSBB dampers a few times makes it leak oil, while on the other hand, my regular TRF dampers leak way less even for weeks. Also, the pistons are really small in comparison to the cylinder, giving the shaft a ton of play while the old TRF dampers have barely any play. These SSBB dampers pretty much need a rebuild for every race day.

I used 50 duro x rings in my ssbb dampers and they seeped a tiny amount right away so I figured the seals might swell .......1st race they all leaked 50 % of the oil from each shock.....rebuilt them with the standard trf blue orings and have been silky smooth and leak free ever since.

Thanks for the advice. I read these x-rings were supposed to seal better, which it obviously doesn't. I'll play around with different ways to build the dampers and post what I find since I've also got the clear and the blue o-rings. Another thing I've noticed is that middle of my oil seals aren't flat anymore and are a bit convex, likely from trying to build it with 0 rebound. I think it's making the rebound inconsistent.

In my experience on the SSBB dampers, yes the kit TRF blue orings leaks like a sieve. And although the clear tamiya orings are leak free, they cause a lot of drag on the shafts.
I found that the best compromise for leakage and smoothness are the Yokomo blue orings YS7-HG. They maintain smoothness while allowing only minimal leakage compared to the others I've tried.

Too early to tell, but so far I've tried putting shims above and below the x-ring, and it's getting a really good seal whilst still being really smooth. I'd say it's likely that the cause of leaking before was due to the x-rings being around 1.75mm, so there would be a big gap for the oil to leak through when using no shims. I also used a 0.1mm shim for the dampers built with either blue or clear o-rings, and they also haven't leaked, but the clear o-rings are noticeably grippier. No doubt the clear o-rings seal better but might not be as smooth.

Any of us true blue believers ever done any vs type challenges ?
like 419xr vs a800 , t4 18-19 , yokomo bd9 or what ever, all you hear
is how fast people become soon as the get an awesomatix or xray none
of them ever seem to be tested from or vs a Tamiya. Has anyone tried and how was
it , does our amazing blue beast hold it’s own or are the big 3 faster?
hoping for carpet and asphalt tests

hey thanks! the xray does have a nice fit and finnish type of build. , but most importantly someone found them to be on the same playing field on the track and that's what matters, hopefully someone has done some awesomatix testing that has a 419xr
