For the same reason I run rpm front arms and rear hubs, Lunsford turnbuckles, and Losi ball cups and studs. Insurance.

I am running RPM arms and ball cups for durability. The FT rear hubs are fine IMHO. I have broken two rear arms over the past 6 months but both times I either hit one of the nails that pin the tubing to the track or something similar.

I have been studying another option for a Gear Diff. The Durango gear diffs use a 10x15x4mm bearing. I test fitted a 10x16x4mm bearing and it fit almost perfectly into the diff case. So instead of purchasing a machined bearing sleeve why not just is the proper bearing. I pulled these bearings from my SC10 4x4.
I am also planning to test fit a Caster S10B diff into the case. The ring gear is the same size so if the width fits It would be a good alternative. I have access to a pinion gear that uses a pin instead of the key but it will need to be shimmed to the shaft. I'll post photos if I get this to work. Caster Diff kits are $43 and the SC104x4 bearings are $7.29 a pair. So for about $100 for a set of Gear Diffs.

I don't think so. The diff bearing is 8x14. The SC10 FT uses a10x16 which fits. If a 8x16 bearing exists that would be the first step. Then you would have to see if the width works.
I did check the Caster diff tonight and it drops in perfect. Now I need to solve the pinion problem.

I mean it all depends on track conditions. Barcodes may not give the right side bite for the track, and something else is needed. Also full tread height of a new set may not be ideal either. Sometimes they need to be worn in before they start to work. Not to mention inserts. It can get expensive, but playing with tires can really make the difference and solve your problem. Either that or set up the car to suit the tires.

Now that I think about it, the issue may have been the dogbone pin is smaller than the casters.

Does the dogbone have enough room for its plunge into the outdrive? When I ran Caster we tried installing their diffs in a 44.2 and ran into an issue we couldnt fix, just cant remeber what that was. If they do work itll be awesome since they finally have really good outdrives that hardly wear at all.

I will do a full photo layout and dimensional detail on this thread.
