I am going to change the rear spring on that starting sheet to reds instead of yellows, but it was originally intended to hand out to guys just getting the buggy who didn’t have many, or any, other spring options.

Our e-buggy class has had a really good turnout this year. For the past 2 weekends there have been 2 full heats of em'. And that's a lot considering there were about 40-50 people racing that night. And on another note, e-truggy is starting to have some presence as well. Had about 5 out there as well. Hope tekno decides to offer an e-truggy. The new serpent e-truggy needs some competition!

Ran the first outdoor local club race at Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, MO on Saturday with my EB48. Track is super smooth, ultra hard-pack, with dust on top. It has medium to large jumps and good rythm sections, with a couple long straights.
I ran the basic "Door" setup with a few mods. I shortened the wheelbase by 1 mm. Tekno yellow springs on the rear and Tekno green springs on the front. Lowered the rear camber link on the tower 1 hole. AKA I-beams V1 all around. I won 2 out of 3 heats, TQ, and the main.
This my first race on this buggy and I was very impressed with how well it jumped and how nimble it was in the turns without any traction roll issues. Durability is awesome. I was worried about screws coming loose without running the mid and center braces. Checked them several times and not one loose. Very happy with the EB48.

It's a very good starting point for high and low bite for Ohio/PA dirt tracks. I don't claim for it to be perfect just a more neutral starting point. I race at a lot of different style tracks in our area from slicks to loose with full pins, and I get to race with good group of decent drivers. No one I race with on a club level is going to win the nats but for example there were Serpent, Losi, and Durango sponsored drivers at the club race I went to today so your stuff has to at least be decent or you’re going to get smoked.

Question about 12mins main:
After 12 mins, I charged 4250mah into my battery, 250mah more than justpoet's probably because I had a few more practice laps than him, before the race start.
Power setup is RX8 + 1900kv T8, with 17t pinion.
The ESC temperature was pretty cool at around 135F, but the motor temperature went up to 180F.
SO, will adding RX8's current limit increase the ESC's temperature?
Because the last time I used 80% current limit (w/ 18t pinion), the motor dropped 20F to 150F, though the ESC was still 170F.
(Turned that off and dropped a pinion gear and got ESC 130F, Motor 150F after 8 mins main).
Really enjoyed 12mins main, but not sure whether 15mins main will eat up the whole 5200mah and damage the battery pack?
*fastest lap happened in the end of 12mins main...what's wrong with me...

Being new to this and all I didn't notice the Amp rating of the various ESC's unless they were part of the name, ie, the Hobbywing 150A one. That, and I wasn't aware what that meant really, only that in certain ways 150 was better than 120, not just "a bigger number".
Going from a Mamba Monster in my Vorza to the Viper VTX8 was a learning experience with some batteries killed.
Looking into it the Monster is 120A, the VTX8 is 220A and looking into the RX8 just now it's rated at 210A, so it's close to the Viper.
A lot of folks run the RX8 so I'm wondering what battery brand and spec you guys are running, or would recommend for 7 min mains?
I had bought some Nano-tech's, 65-130C in 3300 and 5000 mah.
I have killed one of the 3300's, Cell 1 at zero, not sure if it's too small for 7 min racing.

That said, assuming 15 minute main, you would use about 5000mah. Cutting it too close to me at least.
Personally, on 4S I would look into a battery in the 6000mah range for a guarenteed 15 minutes of runtime. This is what I did back when I started 1/8 electric with the old Neu motors and a *high* C rating pack at the time, 6000mah 25C lol.
I think that is why 10 minute mains have become as popular as they are for this class. You don't need really pig sized packs to make 10 minutes.
If you track is not really anal on 1/8 E weight, you can also look into going with a lighter weight motor and battery combo setup. Will make it more nimble and not need as much mah to push it around the track.
Anyone here using 2K rear diff weight versus the common 3K? If so, how are you liking it and the conditions you use it on? Leaning towards setting my rear diff to this on my rebuild after liking it this past saturday.

The racing format really hasnt changed since you raced but the race lengths have gotten a little longer for the electric classes.
If you plan to run indoors get yourself a set of Panther clay slicks (scuffed up with a sanding drum on a dremmel) and a set of gold barcodes or clay Panther rattlers for tires. That will cover 99% of indoor track conditions. They are changing the dirt mix up a bit on the outdoor track this spring so I cant give you any good info there yet. It hasn't opened yet but usually does sometime early/mid May.
Also, if you are planning to race regularly, do yourself a favor and grab a personal transponder. They still use the older style AMB lap timing equipment so if you get one of the newer style MyLaps transponders make sure you get the Hybrid version and not the pure RC4. Also, any of the older style AMB or MRT still work fine.
My number one recommendation... If it has been 15 years then you are going to be shocked by the power of the electric cars vs 15 years ago. Start off slow, keep the throttle EPA set low and increase as you feel you can handle it on the track. Learning to drive again with one of these 1/8 ebuggies can be flat out dangerous if you are not careful. 7lb + car doing 40+mph on the indoor track can do some damage. There are some guys who show up with their cars so overpowered that they cant even control them and it just makes others mad.
Have fun, yer gonna love this buggy.

I read somewhere back in the day that the tekno rc8 was teknos favorite chassis...and if you look close at the 2 cars there is a lot of similarities....that being said the eb48 will instantly give you better times than the rc8.2.....mine did

Last year I was consistently B or C main material...this year with the EB48 I've been up with the big boys in the A.
If you go Tekno, you won't be disappointed.
That is just my 2 cents...
