Any of you guys running 1/10 scale ESCs (Flow, R10, Speed Passion, Etc.) with your 550 motors?

Aside from cutting up the battery box, and replacing screws/links, what are you guys doing for weight reduction?

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these.

The r10 pro 160 amp is able to run a 4 pole also. Anything that can run the 4 poles can do a 2 pole 550, but the reverse is not true. The HW120 amps and Sp equivalents can power a 2 pole 550 and a 4 pole. My viper vtx10R is only 2 pole 4.5 550 rated. When I get my truck, I hope to use that esc and not buy another. Unless maybe tekin releases a 4 pole capable 1/10th esc. I don't like to buy esc's that don't fit in my b4.

I've run an R10, and an SXX in my AE 4x4, but I'd like to see what people have to say about running them in this truck.

People been saying that they lighten their trucks up alot they don't handle as well anymore and they go back to stock weight

I like the viper 1/10th esc's, but the vtx8 is pretty new. Even so, I prefer to use 1/10 esc's when I can. Easier to install and can be used in 1/10 buggies.

Noted. I don't care for the all or nothing powerband of the 4-pole motors (I ran a Tekin 4600 for a while). Awesome power, but no fineness. Maybe I should be looking at a different class... lol

Its not the motor its the ESC , electric isn't like a fuel based power system . The motor only does what the ESC tells it to , tune the power delivery of the ESC and it will be as smooth as any other motor out there IMO .....

that is why the tekin guys run the rx8 and limit the current, lol. to help smooth it out. With the 2 poles, if you have a 180 into large jumps, the 4 pole can be nice. But like Acill said, a 2 pole with the torque rotor might be the ticket also.

I would be cautious using a 1/10 ESC in this truck. They do weigh a fair bit and I know Tekin HIGHLY recommended not using their 1/10 ESC in the Losi SCTE when it came out due to the weight. And the 410 weighs more than the SCTE.
Just my opinion though. I'm no expert in 1/10 ESCs, don't even own one LOL.

None of the 1/10 scale Tekin ESCs were rated for 550-size motors.

Ive ran the Novak Pulse coupled to a 4.5t 550 ballistic motor since day one. Havent came off any hotter then the guys running the big 1/8th scale Esc. Ive been running zero timing on the can and 15º from Esc with a 13t pinion. Have no problem keeping up with the 4 poles.

Anyone wanting their truck to perfom a little differently please take a look at the setup sheet by Pres.

http://www.teknorc.com/tekno5/wp-con..._ilog_SDRC.pdf

Specifically the rear toe, wheel base and battery position. Overall his setup is really good. Only thing to change for low traction conditions would be 7-7-5 or 7-10-5 in the diffs.
