While I agree and thus dont run spectrum or savox, I have heard a few people say their esc runs a little cooler with the receiver cap.

I've never had an issue with my savox. But, I also use Sanwa radio so, maybe that's why. Someone mentioned airtronics rx deal with savox servos a little better than say..spektrum rx.

So I am currently saving up some money for a ESC, I think I have narrowed it down to a ESC but I was going to see what you guys thought.. So the one I was thinking was the LRP Flow Competition

Here are my questions about it:
What is the difference between the competition and works team (besides the motor limit)?
(debating if it's worth the extra $70)
Is there a better esc out there for about the same price?

Motor limit and output amps. If you are never going t run a big motto go with comp. if you may run a big motor go with works.

We're not talking about brown outs here...we are talking about all-out BEC failure.

MOST ESCs that I have run in the past, if you exceed their rated amperage, they will brown out, but after a few seconds, or after power cycling the ESC, the BEC resets itself and things work again. I actually found out that I was exceceding the mechanical endpoint on my steering with my rally car this way. (things were fine when on a car stand, but when the suspension compressed, the arms pushed back against the servo....setting my endpoint 5% less solved the problem)

But with the SXX V2, once you blow the BEC, it's done. No amount of resetting or updating the firmware would correct it....

Most ESC's have that 3A limit, but if you exceed it, it behaves like a battery running out. With the SXX V2, if you exceed the 3A limit, it's toast.

The painful thing is that more and more servos are coming out with more and more speed, more and more power, but very few of them rate their current draw....

The replacement board: MOD + STOCK UPGRADE

Note specifically the comment of "Moreover, the Upgrade-Kit SXX „Mod + Stock“ fixes the existing problems with the BEC of the SXX V2."

Known design flaw.

I am not calling out bad product, I love my LRP stuff. I just want to make sure that anyone running the SXX V2 has the best experience possible. It's not a cheap ESC, and to have it fail really sucks, so get the upgrade!

Not quite , you can try the Castle external BEC and still use with out repairing the SXX BEC ....
Performs better with the Castle then the factory BEC or even the upgrade board BEC ...

Its not quite over for many if they do as I suggest ..
Have a SXX done this way and its still performs great for many months now .. ...

I run all savox. Works fine with orion ESCs and futaba receivers. You can really gauge the quality of a BEC by watching the light on an older AMB transponder. Doesn't even dim or flicker with my orion ESCs, but other ESCs, whoa... it would damn near go completely out.

LRP had a BEC issue and the only real fix is to have it fixed if I recall correctly. There's no excuse for lame BECs these days. Castle is the worst about this -- their MMP takes 6s but their BEC won't handle a 6.5 at 2s in sensored mode (personal experience)... however, they SELL an external BEC that is rock solid. Totally unacceptable.

I said IT was done, referring to the BEC inside the ESC.....maybe I should have clarified.

Anyway, that discussion is over now, I just wanted to warn the user who just purchased the SXX (albeit a month ago now) about the potential and probable failure. Good to see that even WC has had an SXX fail. We know that one definatley did not come from user error! (no sarcasm font needed, I'm serious...WC knows his stuff!)

I had two sxx stock specs fail in a row as soon as i used my servo still have them in the box ready to ship back for a year now Maybe i will just go with the external BEC and mount it next to my reciever instead of having a weight mounted there.

Or you can run a separate receiver pack like I do with a HV servo. Works awesome, and you never have to worry about brown outs, etc... 300mah pack fits right inside the space under the shock tower.

How about quit using Savox servos and not worry about it. Everyone I know has had issues while running them.

They're really popular here and most have no issues with them. Those that do have one of those ESCs that have junk BECs.

I have no issues with my Savox. My last SXX V2 blew running a Futaba BLS451.

Carry on.
