Since all the talk of upper shelves for the ESC's I thought I would post a quick pic of mine. Will get better pics soon. I do like Cav's factory look with a t-plate modded though. Been this way for a while now. Might try cavs way. Works great for me, wanted to get the battery a bit further forward without sacraficing rear bite.

So what dose mounting the esc on the battery strap do? I always thought that it should be mounted in the side pods to make the edge of the tire plant more. Was thinking about trying it

moves the mass closer to the centerline of the car, helping to make it more balanced and turn more evenly side to side

Would it work to put it in the battery tray under the strap?

I mount mine on the roof of my body. It greatly increases my roll center.

it works well on low grip tracks.
raising the CG can help the car have more weight transfer under braking, under acceleration. thus you get more oversteer under braking/off power, and more understeer when accelerating.
that's why it really helps on low grip track, under heavy acceleration, it's hard to keep the rear in place. Higher CG -> more weight transfer means it will lift the front up, and hold the rear down more.
And under braking/off power turning, the front gets more grip than usual, and the car just turns really sharp.

That's why losi 22 mount the ESC on a high position, even if shorty pack is popular nowadays, the esc is still up there. AND, 22 drivers like to raise transmission by 1mm to further increase the height of CG.
*however, 22 has a heavier metal chassis, which lowers the CG initially. With B4's plastic chassis, it can be over-done. (i.e. for 22, raising tranny by 2mm is too much, and not working very well).

Well ROAR says your car has to be able to accept a full pack so thats the other reason it is up there.

Not trying to be a nit pick, but raising the trans also increases dog bone plunge which creates more mechanical bind giving more traction. I felt the 22 pushed too much with 1mm, i prefered .5mm but thats history

i believe the roar rule states the vehicle has to be made to accept a full size pack, meaning the car cant be made to only use a shorty, so you could run a shorty and put your esc below if you wanted
