I did the same math as you and wound up going with another kit. I figure I will use the kit as spares and if i use something just replace it back into the kit. Later it will still be a complete kit which is worth alot more than a "parts lot" ever would be if I decide to sell or change buggies. Or if I'm diggin the car still, it'll be a brand new refreshed car after the first one gets long in the tooth.

The batteries themselves are great , its the universal connector that sucks . Over time it will wear and not contact the adapter plug very well , then it will start arcing and heat up . Or it wont work at all .....

Nice idea on Venom/Atomiks part but just doesnt hold up ....

I typically remove the switch, as soon as I plug in my pack my car is on, one less thing to fail. For lipo cutoff I've been running 3.5v per cell for over a year now.

If you don't want to cut the switch off, there is a spot on the mud guard to mount the switch actually. In the pic below it is a little hard to see, but once you look at the mud guard you'll see where it goes.

You'll want to mount the switch with the 'ON' position on bottom so hard hits won't turn your car off.

+1 - highly recommend 3.5v/cell for cutoff.

My buddy and I were trying different setups to try to lock down the car and we got the car super locked in and driving like a dream. Its different than we would run with our Serpent cars as this car reacts to certain things a little differently than the Serpent does. So here is what we ran. This is for extremely dusty and loose track.

Front:
7K oil in diff
40 wt. oil, stock spring
Inside hole on arm for shock mounting
2nd hole in from outside on tower for shock mounting
1.5 degree camber
.5 degree toe out
stock caster blocks
camber link long on tower and arm. Middle hole vertically on tower
rear hole on ackerman plate
droop set to allow as much up travel as possible without using the shock piston to limit the travel
Front chassis brace is used

Middle:
7K oil in diff
stock spur w/ 18 pinion for Tekin 1900 motor
Center chassis brace was used

Rear:
35 wt. oil w/ stock springs
Shortest wheelbase(Made the biggest improvement)
3K oil in diff
1.5 degree camber
3 degree rear toe in
I used anti squat( It needs it with short wheelbase. The car got very loose without it)
Stock camber link position

The ride height was set to 28.5 rear and 27.5 front. This was by far the best handling car I have ever run. I was 15 seconds faster in a 6 minute run than I was with the 811BE. I could have picked up another 4-5 seconds without getting tangled up with a back marker but Still great improvement.

My buddy was on the fence about running as he could never get comfortable with a 1/8th E buggy. He came from an 811BE also. He was so much faster, consistant and made the A main his 1st time out with his Tekno buggy. To sum it up, I have turned alot of heads at our local track for the 1st race day out with the car. I still have more to try but I am really comfortable with this car and am confident to say, there is no better buggy for me. My buddy and I were the only 2 Tekno cars and we both were deep into the A main in a very tight field. I made a bad move for the main by taking out the anti squat to see if it would make the car even faster. Bad move as it turned my car into a drift car. I still drove it hard as it drives a slide nice but I ended up 4th and my buddy got 3rd. He was smart enough to leave the car alone after we got it running really well
Yea Jay, I can't believe how good the cars were (in that pretty hi-comp field starting the points series)... Heck, I had just completed building mine literally two hours before the races started, lol....

I hope I don't come across as some fan boy (for anybody), cause I really just try to call it like I see it... And I'm not at all one of these guys that simply talks up what ever it is that they've purchased(like many seem to do), as if their desperately TRYING to make their questionable purchase a good one.... But my EB-48 is leaps and bounds better (in EVERY reguard) than any 1/8 scale electric buggy that I've ever had (or tried), and i've tried about everything worth having in this class....It's actually really aggressive(like I like), while at the same time SUPER forgiving.... I havn't really felt that with any other cars....it's usually pretty lop-sided "one or the other"......

It's funny out of the 4 guys that tried my car after the races, each one was considerably better (immediately) than with their own cars that they were used to...that's pretty crazy

In your best words possible how do you compare the eb-48 to the 811-be?

Yeah, the cars worked really well. It was nice to see that this car actually does what it should as far as setup changes. All of my set up knowledge as does yours comes from onroad where traction is plentiful. So when I was pulling out anti squat to add traction in the Serpent, That threw me for a loop. This car did exactly what it should by planting the ass on power and helped it enter the corner. Now that we established a bulletproof setup that we can always resort back to, I want to mess with the rear outboard hinge pin location and camber link lengths. I will see if I can get out for some test and tune saturday morning. I hope so. I am dieing to try more stuff. Wheels in the head are turning again.

I understand that if you decide to go with the electrik-clutch option you must use mechanical brakes because the clutch bell will spin freely just like in nitro. When using to High Voltage servos one for brake and the other for steering, how do you get full voltage to both from 1 esc? Will a bec be able to distribute 7.4 volts to each servo? The esc I want to use throws out 6.0 volts only.

With 44t spur that come stock and using a 1950KV Active8 Novak system would it be safe to use a 16 tooth bell. I know I still have to temp. I would say the Activ 8 may be comparable to the Tekin 1950.

This buggy really intrigues me. I got to see it live this past weekend. It looks and drive pretty awesome. It might be my next build.

Took mine out to Revelation Raceway today (large 1/8 track with big jumps, hard packed with loose sandy/small debris top layer). It was INCREDIBLE

I can't push the car hard enough around the track. The point where you overdrive this car is almost beyond my skill level. You can just keep going a little faster if you are willing to experiment with new lines or if you try to keep corner speed a little faster than your comfortable with. It's fantastic.

A few things I tried that differ from box stock that made me say "this car is stupid easy to drive":
  • less anti-squat helps especially if traction is a little low. Stock anti-squat setting I feel leaves the buggy riding a little high and if you break traction, it has the opposite effect of giving good forward traction, instead the rear end skates around a little and has a hard time settling down.
  • I had an Associated RC8.2e. I also had a Losi 8ight-e 2.0. And I am faster with this buggy. In any case, I did have some Associated 1.3x8 tapered pistons, and I liked them much better. Especially in the rear with 32.5 wt oil. Planted the rear end and gave it a little more pack. You do have to drill out the center hole a tad to get them to work.

Lastly, for those of you wondering or for those that need a steel spur gear now, an entire Associated diff is a direct drop in. After selling all my Associated stuff to get this car, I just happen to have an entire center diff with a 44t spur. I also had a bag of diff shims (asc89117), and I just replaced the entire diff and shimmed accordingly (used almost the entire bag of diff shims).

Reason I needed the new diff was because I chipped a tooth on the plastic gear. To its credit, Revs tends to chew up plastic gears rather quickly because of the sand and debris top layer. I was going strong and really pushing this thing before I chipped a single tooth. I was hitting some really fun and big lines, and crashing spectacularly at times as well, and the chipped tooth is the only damage I came away with Nice job Tekno.
