I have a lot of fun racing in the stock Slash class at my local track - I also have fun with it outside bashing around. After replacing the bearing carriers with RPM parts and upgrading the hinge pins to Anza ones, I rarely break anything.
But do yourself a favor and get an SC10 or XXX-SCT (whatever is more popular at your LHS or track) for racing. There are plenty of used SC10s found here all the time - you should be able to snag a nice one for a deal.

Advice is to do what u want to point in fact ..Rustler took the winners circle in mod class. Pros opinion don't waste your time and money you no how good it feels to makes someone eat there own words. Everyone has off days u just need to no ur truck and track u know how someone will feel to get beat by the underdog. That why I drive a 10s street car yes a Honda feels so nice beating people with 6 thousand dollar car. Do u and take notes on what others have done to make it better.

going straight is one thing,. added turns is a whole other game.
Take same skill with a ok truck you do ok.
Same skill with a truck that is a better platform to race with and you can do a lot better. You are just limiting your skill or chance to gain skill with a truck that is not up to par with the current leading racing trucks,
Plus the OP has already made up his mind and spent the butt load amount of money to make his slash bling and look cute on the track and still get beat by joe blow with equal skill and a correct race truck for a track..

According to who? I've had a couple of SC10's, XXX-SCT, Blitz ESE, Stock Slash and an LCG Slash. I've raced them all on different surfaces. The LCG Slash can be just as competitive as any of them in club racing. Yeah, the Losi and the AE are a little bit better, but it's not that drastic of a difference.

I know it's a little late but I'd say it was a waste of money. I'm competitve with my Slash and it's not LCG. I have
-STRC ALuminum Shock Towers
-Proline Shocks
-Tekin 17.5 w/Tekin RS ESC
-RPM Rear Arms(don't recommend but better than stock)
-Different tires for different tracks
-STRC Caster Blocks(not really necessary)
All that and I was 2nd fastest qualifier in stock SC on our 1/8th scale track. This setup gives you all the adjustability you need, and other than the towers, I bought everything used off of here, for a total of ~$125+$100 for the truck itself. Not too bad IMO.

I have proven it on the track...
So to me. The slash is still not competitive.
I do not see spending 200-300 on the Slash kit or how ever he bought and dumping another 600 into to make it "Race ready/Competitive" to me that is pointless and a waste of money. Should have just started with a race truck/brand that is a known winner. and race/competitive ready
just my .02 though
Not my truck not my care.
I will still enjoy racing my Sc10 for half the price and it will do just fine
