Keyence ESC
#91
The only reason that i am using the Keyence right now it to test it out. I still Have a Q1, and a vfs-2000. My VFS is stuck in a high setting mode and won't re-program itself, but it works great for mod 12th. My Q1 feels good, but the vfs is smoother. With my Q2, the car seemed to have overall better laptimes than the Q1 and the batteries lasted longer due to the variable frequency. It felt very close to my vfs before the problems with it. The keyence definately has the bling factor going for it. I am putting a novak ss diode on it as soon as one comes in.

Here's what I found out lately.
I put the Novak ss diode on my TC with the keyence yesterday and ran it around a bit. I didn't notice any performance gains or losses. What I did notice was how clean the brushes and comm were after the run. I did some more testing also. I ran 2 battery packs through the car without a shottke and the comm was a little burnt and the brushes were purple. I put on 2 regular shottke diode's and after 2 packs of hard driving, the comm looked clean but the brushes started turning purple at the tips. For the 2 last runs, I put the novak ss diode on and the comm was clean and the brushes weren't burnt.
All of the tests were with a Reedy quad mag 19t with reedy 767 brushes, full faced, with Purple+ and Red- springs, and a gearing of 38/100 on my yok sd.
So far I have over 50 runs on the keyence with a shottke diode of some sort on it and it just seems to be better with it on.
Thanks,
Tim

It's all about the brake pulse brotha man... Brakes = ouch for mod motors. The motors run cleaner with them on too. A diode along with a cap can help ensure clean and useful power to the motor from the battery.
They were around $10 from tower.

The rapida has a lower on resistance than the 2002 and original extreme. I am happy with my extreme. Actually if you measure the speed control, it has the same footprint as the vfs-2000. It is just taller. I will be ordering a rapida from speedtech soon for my 1/12th scale for cleveland. Maybe I can pick up a couple of extremes or 2002's before then. maybe.
You will be happy with any of the extreme series or the new rapida.

That's very impressive to hear. Honestly I was planning to do the same thing but thought otherwise cuz Keyence didn't recommended it. I was afraid to damage this very expensive ESC. Exactly which Keyence model were you using with this?

I ran the car this past sunday in 19t with a c2 and a reedy quad mag.
It had excellent punch and top end and when the quad mag was geared at 43/100 in my Yok sd, the speed control only got to 119F.
So far excellent results with the speed control and with using the novak diode.

Hey guys, I've had my Keyence for awhile now, and I'm finally ready to attempt to put it on the YOKE. But I have a ton of questions though. I'll get to all of the questions a little later, 'cause first off what I want to know is how can I improve the placement of my electrics on the chassis?
You guys take a look....
