If you have to use thread lock to keep a pinion on, there's a problem. Just put the pinion on, tighten it, set your gear mesh and put the truck on the ground, give it a couple pulls of the throttle, then, recheck your gear mesh and snug the pinion set screw and motor screws down again. Never had a problem in 20+ years of RC racing.

not a problem man. I used a pair of calipers to measure my wrench's shaft width and found the smallest bit possible. Also, its small enough so that dirt isnt an issue of getting under the under tray.

Pull the motor, use the measurement in the manual, tighten pinion, then reinstall motor.

the problem with that is, 32 pitch 13 tooth and up (i think?) wont fit through the hole in the motor plate, so you have to install it while the motor is in the truck.

that is correct, I just confirmed it on my truck. 32 pitch, 13t, 14t, 15t, 16t, 17t, 18t, 19t are all to big to fit thru the hole in the motor plate.
