any one have a trick to get the pinion on tight? i can't seem to get a allen in to get the set screw tight. my pinion has come off twice now. the truck runs good got the binding issues fixed. but i am going to take it back apart because i just read about the diffs not having enough fluid in them.

I trimmed a little off the short end of an Allen wrench so it fits in easy and use blue locktite. Never had one come lose.

what i did was put the motor in the truck to get the pinion in the right place and snug it up the best you can, then loosen the motor screws almost all the way, so you can tilt the motor up. This allows you to get a good angle on the grub screw to get it nice and tight.

It might sound complicated, or time consuming, but it only takes a minute or two.

hey coyoteslash, do you have any chassis braces ready to go? might need to get one off you on payday this wednesday.

If its small enough, tighten the pinion with the motor out of the truck. It will allow you to torque down more. Otherwise, use an "L" wrench to get in there.

I drilled a small hole in the chassis directly under where the pinion set screw should be. I never have a problem. and befor that, I just used this:
