make sure the power capacitor on the speed control is in good shape and soldered securely. If it fails the motor can cog intermittently and eventually the esc will fail.

I wouldn't either, I bought two 40C's and love them, then after about 12 weeks they 50c's were back in stock, picked up 2 of them as well and I'm set probably for quite some time.
