With softening enabled it will keep the ESC in blinky, it doesn't change timing. It is a current limiting setting, nothing to do with timing.

Does anyone know if there are any plastic gears that fit in the diffs? I know HB has made them for the Pro 5 and TCXX, just unsure if they will fit.

Internal ratio is 2.5 and there are many apps out there like the Nor-Cal Hobbies one for Android that will give you gearing charts. 18-19/81 is a good starting point for a 5.5 and 25-27/78 for 13.5.
