This information is invaluable. I don't know whether to get the MT4S again, the MTS, or the MT44. Ha. The MTS seems like a real value, but the options are nice on the MT44. The MT4S is nice because it's on sale and it's backwards compatible, but won't work on Gen2 Super Vortex, correct?

Such a dilemma, value for $148, comfort for $25X (and their newest radio), and backwards compatibility, with the same speed as the current generation, two receivers, and a bag. I honestly don't think I'd fork out the coin for Super Vortex. I'd look at Futaba, but Sanwa seems to smoke them in latency.

has the lipo for the 44 showed up for sale anywhere stateside yet?

I've not seen it listed anywhere, but I got mine from my Japanese colleague a few weeks back. It's great... Fits well, lightweight, and lasts as long as you'd expect.
I do think the 18650 is probably going to be the longest life option, but I like the USB charging feature and I'd feel that the hole in the base was useless if I went that route... Don't like useless things.

Yup. I had a US MT-4S and it worked with FHSS/2/3/4. I bought a Japanese one and it only does FHSS-3/4. It also supported some other weird protocols that I've never heard of (DSC or something? Can't remember).

I purchased MT-44 Transmitter and receiver. The item works well when turned on but I am having a problem. After the first time I powered the transmitter on I powered it off and the next time I used the transmitter, the item would not power on unless I unplugged the battery first. I would work OK until I powered the transmitter down again and attempted to switch it on. I replaced the batteries to see if that was the issue but with new batteries it behave the same way. Otherwise the transmitter works the way it should.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be and how to fix it or should I just return it.
Thanks

18650's are generally some version of LiIon(INR,IMR,ICR). I know my iChargers have a LiIo mode. So check your chargers manual.
I charge mine on a LiIon specific charger, you can get simple .5 amp single 18650 usb chargers for $7-10.
Also for case's, I recommend the Condition1 #75 Pelican style case. You can get them for $40 off amazon with prime.
Edit. Also if its not been said, Be very careful if your soldering leads to an 18650. I think you can cause thermal runaway on 18650 sized batteries around 225-250 C
