There's plenty of room for a small 3000mah pack and the BEC but the problem is that Spektrum in their infinite wisdom made it so you need the battery tray to hold the cover on.

I wanted to make sure I could buy a new battery tray in case I screwed it up trying to modify it so I could put a lipo in it and still have the tray in to hold the door on so I contacted Spektrum and they said I would have to send my radio in to get the tray replaced as it's not for sale to the public so that's not good.

So now I'm thinkin' of buying either the NiZN's like many of you have done or going the high capacity LiFe 14500 route and add the missing links from another battery tray and solder some jumpers to make it a 2S3P setup as long as I can do it and keep the battery door on tight.

The 4S I had before the 4R had a lipo in it. I was hoping it was something they would continue with the 4 series of radios. Never try to guess manufacturers line of thinking, it'll backfire. lol

FWIW - I have the 3R Pro, I switched to the NiZN batteries a few months ago, they really work great, wish I had done it sooner!

I was having problems with the sr2000 rx until I went to the NiZn batteries. High voltage is king in RC! Best $21 ever spent in this hobby.

NiZN life

For those of you who've been running the NiZN's for a while how are they holding up and what kinda life are you getting? Reading a lot of reviews on Amazon and a lot of people are having problems with cells dying quickly.

Thanks.

I had these cells in my radio and they worked great. I only had to charge them to make myself think they would make it through my next race. In reality, they seemed to last forever.

With that being said, I have stopped using them. One day, when I put my radio away, I either left it on or accidently turned it on. Anyway, a few days later when I discovered it, I took the batteries out and they would not accept a charge.

I have not bought any replacements because If I accidentally leave my radio on, again, I don't want to throw more "good" cells away.

I have been using regular alkaline batteries and have not had any problems, so that is what I am going to stick with.

7.4v Lipo for DX4R Pro

Here is a picture of my DX4R Pro with Lipo Conversion. Using a 1900 2S Thunder Power Lipo with a 3 amp 6v BEC.

rms, how tight is your battery door? Looked at doing something similar (gonna use a CC 10amp bec myself) and thought about using a 3s. Thinking that with higher voltage a 1800mah or so pack will last a long time.

Did you take the whole tray out and stuff sides with dense foam or did you cut the tray?

Replacement trays are available to public so I was hesitant on carving up my battery tray.

Looks good.

I have a couple of old SMC 1s 4200 packs from pan car days that are 1s2p that I made into a 3s that would fit (with CC bec) if I removed the tray itself.

The Battery door is very tight, the foam I used is medium density and double sided taped in there as for the tray I removed it, it is still fully intact now with a plug on it if I need it to go back in. I thought about using a 3s but could not find the size I wanted that would fit without modifying anything. I chose the 3 amp bec because it is small and has adjustable voltage from 5-6 volts and the price was right.

I know this is old thread but I just called horizon to order a spring. ..and they said I had to send my radio in to get it repaired ..they will not send you parts for your radio because its a liability issue.I say bs to that its a money issue. ..looks like I'm going to the hardware store...Ace Hardware number 71 Spring might have to cut it down some but it seems to have the same tension and its the same size up yours Horizon $0.89 fix

I have not had a single issue with the NIZN batteries. Even lipo will die if run down. I am still seeing way over 6 volts after two days of racing. I swap my packs out when charging, as I am using two packs. I guess that lets the batteries last longer. I would like to see 1.8 volt batteries!

Me either. Did a test run when I first got the NiZn's. Left the radio on for an entire race day ( about 11 hours) and went from 7.3V on the screen to 6.5V. Now, I throw them on the charger once a month just to recharge em. Have yet to see anything below 6.7V. That's racing every weekend.... Went and got 8 more, 4 for my kids radio and 4 more for spares... They have almost paid for themselves in the year I have been running them as I used to replace mine 3 times a year when running Energizer Lithium's. They were good ( new was 6.4V) but at $9 for 4, became pricey...

It has been a few years now, any word on a new pro?? I have a dx3. I'm looking at getting a new radio and if a new one is coming out soon, I'll wait :) want something that is left handed.

Has anyone any idea of how to set up an aux channel for on off switch on the DX4r Pro?
My trusty DX3 s was simple and I have been using it for all my large scale stuff (all fitted with Killer Bee Kill switches)
But at the moment, i am at a loss on how to set up the on off switch on the DX4r Pro.
Any help would be appreciated
