I find it interesting about the glitching issue. I use Duracell AA batteries and have seen as low as 5.0 volts and have never had an issue. I run all Spektrum products in each of my cars. Does the extra voltage from the NiZn batteries void any warranties from Spektrum? Thanks for the help.

I would think not since it is still a battery, and not a LIPO pack. Plus 7.1 volts is not all that high, I have seen 8 volts(from a Lipo pack) and it was fine. After you use the NiZn, I really don't think you will go back, and why would you. When I see 6 volts on the screen, my fully charged pack goes in.

I use Eneloops (NiMh) in my Spektrum and they do just fine.

Compare to the airtronics m12 how stiff is the trigger tension on the dx4r does it have even better trigger tension.

I'm thinking about getting one of these DX4R Pro radio's.

Would you guys recommend it? I have a ton of Spektrum DSM1 RX's, so I would hate to have to switch to another brand. I currently use a Nomadio React, with the Spektrum DSM RX's. However the Nomadio React, is only compatible with Nomadio's own original Transceivers. Which are virtually impossible to find these days and the Spektrum DSM1 RX's. So I would like to try something new and something that's more future proof, if there is such a thing. Atleast something that's compatible with more protocols.

Anybody try these?

Rumor is the DX4R is not compatible with the Orange RX from HK. Feel free to correct me if anyone out there has been able to bind it to the DX4R. I know they work fine with the DX4S though.

If you come from existing spektrum radio line, the DX4R is fine. It has backwards compatibility going for it which to most of us is a huge bonus. The trigger is size adjustable, which is nice and the spektrum radios are cheaper.

It is compatible with DSM, DSM2 and DSMR. I've had glitching on DSM and DSM2, but not yet on DSMR.

If you come from another radio line where you have a smaller wheel which feels good to turn, I would not recommend it. The wheel size and feel (of all the spektrums) are quite awful when compared to KO and Futaba for instance.

I have DX2E (several), DX3S, DX3R and DX4R.

I COMPLETELY agree on the steering wheel. The Spektrum wheels are like driving a bus.

I must admit the size of the wheel makes no difference to me. Besides can't you change the wheel on the Spektrum transmitters?

You can. I run the Dynamite aluminum wheel on my DX4S. At least it looks good.

What about the feel of the weel. The spring tension on all my dx's feel the same. Quite hard and "springy".

Has anyone found a good replacement spring? Could be worth a shot.

The Dynamite aluminum wheels' foam is rough feeling compared to my Futaba. No issue of it slipping in my fingers while turning.

I suppose you could replace the pull string. I had to swap one a while back when my JR Racing R1-Pro's spring broke. I just took an old Futaba trigger spring knowning that Futaba springs rarely break. I still use the radio on my older chassis.

But the problem with Spektrum is trying to open up the housing without damaging the decorative plate to get to the screws.

Myself, like many of you don't like the low battery life of the 4R Pro so I looked into modding it to accept a 2s lipo and I was gonna run it through a CC 10amp BEC to bring the voltage down to around 6.5 volts or so. There's plenty of room for a small 3000mah pack and the BEC but the problem is that Spektrum in their infinite wisdom made it so you need the battery tray to hold the cover on.

I wanted to make sure I could buy a new battery tray in case I screwed it up trying to modify it so I could put a lipo in it and still have the tray in to hold the door on so I contacted Spektrum and they said I would have to send my radio in to get the tray replaced as it's not for sale to the public so that's not good.

So now I'm thinkin' of buying either the NiZN's like many of you have done or going the high capacity LiFe 14500 route and add the missing links from another battery tray and solder some jumpers to make it a 2S3P setup as long as I can do it and keep the battery door on tight.

The 4S I had before the 4R had a lipo in it. I was hoping it was something they would continue with the 4 series of radios. Never try to guess manufacturers line of thinking, it'll backfire. lol

Oh and those looking for a new look for your 4R you can go here and get new grips. I picked one up for my 4R Pro and my 9yr old sons 3C and I love mine and the boy loves his. His hands get sweaty when racing and he says his hands don't slide on the new grip unlike the stock foam ones. A few more people at my local track have bought 4R's so it also helps distinguish mine from theirs as I accidentally grabbed the radio of the guy pitting beside me at a race before I put a skin and the grip on mine.
