Hi Brit_racer, PM sent!

Terry, I'd appreciate a PM about where to buy in the US as well.

I'm actually British and was born in Kent... but currently live in California. Looks like I now have another reason to miss home!

Yea I don't really see them on-line either. my track is RC4 but it's unknown if these would work there.

Hi Nezil, so we're both British Men of Kent! I don't expect you miss the weather here, or maybe you miss home because you don't have our weather there?! I will send you a PM about where to buy in the US.

Hi KrAcOn, PTX (NS) and the new mPTX / mPTX Pro transponders work with RC4 and AMBrc/rc3 systems.

I've just emailed MRT as to where to get them in the USA. Unless Terry_S 'is' MRT?!

If we're on a British theme, i'm from Leicester, living in Texas!

Hi, I am Terry at MRT, we sell direct or there are stores in the US that have them.

So another brit living in the US, there are a few of you out there! :)

I once owned a Mellotron 400. And an Austin Healey Sprite, too. Is that enough to make me British? :)

Terry_S 03-01-2016 07:14 PM

Wow, a fascinating combination! You can most certainly be an honourary brit Howard :) I'd really like to know more about you owning a Mellotron 400, did you use it for gigs or just for yourself? I'm really keen on retro keyboards and synthesisers, I just love 'em!

My keyboard skills were crude, so the Mellotron was just for personal entertainment. (I found out quickly that I was better at creating instruments than playing them!) Since we were poor way back in college, I pooled resources with a buddy to buy it. He was an audio tech, so working on the thing was his cup of tea (fortunately, since it always needed work). Fun story: At the time, he worked for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and did sound for a production of The Tempest. They needed "angel voices", so he went to a cathedral and recorded a boys' choir singing single notes, then cut the tape and put it into the Mellotron. That took a bit of time!

Very interesting, that's piqued my interest. It turns out that the tape replay instrument was a US invention after all. Do you have a music and audio tech forum you can recommend to continue this sort of discussion?? My personal interest 'thing' these days is modular synth tech/design, at least when I get time. I'm no expert, I have a friend who is involved in the electronics, it's all so amazing, it's also just great to see retro analogue synths making a comeback too.. I want one!

Unless maybe ,,mylaps or vice versa secretly owns both companies or has a secret deal going on. By strategically cornering the market by selling to guys that like to buy high end & guys looking for a deal. Theres a reason why the rich get richer. Its called LiEs...

I got my 2 PTX transponders in the mail today. How can I tell if they are compatible with the newer RC4 timing system?

The mPTX Pro photo on slowrc's post is our new design transponder, the mPTX with a red/black power lead (instead of the Pro black/black wire lead) and the newer PTX (NS) which flashes the LED twice when powered up work with both the old and the new systems.
