Shimming and re-shimming the rotor after you do a tear down for a rebuild.

wigman, question about the ex-cap. should i remove the cap bank that comes with the esc and then put the ex-cap on, or use both? thanks.

The firmware version the ESC ships with is version 1.1. Version 1.3 should be on the website soon.

Will a HW led box work with it?

For best results they should not replace the standard caps, but be used with them. The ex-cap and similar hold voltage better with more capacity, but don't filter the noise/ripple as well as the normal caps.

Mine did not, though my HW isn't the very newest box.

I've also done testing of this 160 esc and have had no issues. The power is great and so is how smooth it is. I've even done some abuse testing of it in non-recommended applications and it hasn't failed.

Just curious. I have the newest box I believe. I'm selling my HW ESC but wasn't sure if I should hang on to the box

No it will not work with the SMC ESC.

So there is a difference between the SS-1 17.5 and Spec 17.5? I got a couple SS-1's but now I see that my local track runs the spec motor. I can't find the spec motor for sale online ANYWHERE??

The SPEC one is only sold by tracks who use it as a SPEC motor. The SS-1 has US wire and a stock rotor and the SPEC one has Chinese wire and a mod rotor.

Are they out of the office? I've been trying for days to call them and all I get is a machine and I hate talking to machines.:lol: I have a question and maybe some of you gents can answer. I have a 5K 50C inboard factory spec battery that I purchased about 10months ago and all is well with it so far. I'd like to try it in a Mugen MBX6eco with a Tekin 1900 and HW 120 SC pro esc running it in series. Would I have to start with two new batteries or can I simply buy one more and use it with the existing battery? Thanks in advance.

It is possible to buy 1 and use it, but I wouldn't. Here is the short vision of why.

In a proper 4s pack, all 4 cells are matched to drain roughly at the same rate. In 2s packs, this is only true for the cells in the 2s pack, so you will already have the 2 packs be slightly different, causing 1 pack to take a little more load than the other. Age also drops that performance though, so you would essentially be making sure that your packs can't drain evenly by using an old pack with a new one. With 2 new ones they should drain similarly to each other for most of the life of the batteries.

I would make sure you turn the LVC up when using 2 packs in series, since you can't know how one pack drains more than the other, and turn it WAY up if you use 1 old and 1 new pack.

Me personally, if you need dual packs instead of the single 5k 4s pack, I would get 2 new ones. If something went horribly wrong with one of them, you could use the older one as a backup to still make your race or qual, but that wouldn't be the recommended normal way to run.

As for contacting Danny or SMC in general, use the web form on their website to contact them, I've found them to be quite responsive with emails in reply to that.

Just buy two new batteries. 1/8th buggy is in no way a budget class to begin with, so open that wallet! Make yourself a charging and balancing harness while your at it, to charge the two 2S batteries in series as one 4S. That way you'll charge and balance the batteries as a 4S, the way you are running it, and you'll only need a single charging port.
