Viper VTX10R BE.

Just ordered a 7.5 for my MM Serpent. Hopefully it can hang with all the expensive brand name motors.

Got another day with my 17.5 in and now with 34/69 gearing and 50-55 degrees of timing I got even faster and the temps went down. I didn't check the exact temperature but it wasn't even hot to the touch. Better than a D3.5 with a better price.

Just ordered a 17.5 for my B5. Can't wait to see how it runs!

I have been testing and tuning with the 17.5 in our buggy blinky class. I was wondering if anyone if anyone has had experience with gearing and timing on the motor. I was using a reedy sonic 2 if someone has compared them before.

Thanks
Chris

I haven't used that motor but I came from a D3.5 and the gearing is similar. With that on the high bite, large, and flowing track I was at 32-33/69. Now I am running 34/69 with around 50-55 degrees of timing on the can and it's hooked up to a Justock speedo. Comes off the track at around 100 degrees. I've tried other gearing options and this is the best, and fastest, for this track. This weekend I will be on a smaller track so I may need to change things. I raced against two D3.5's last weekend and I could pull them on the straight. I am really happy with the motor.

33/69 Chris. Since I've motored all of you guys with a SMC you should ask me what I'm running instead of making fun of my car :lol:

Is there any significant difference between the SM-1 10.5 and the SS-1 10.5 as far as performance?

The SM motor uses a different rotor and is made with U.S. wire that Danny had shipped over to them. As for performance the SM version will probably have a little more torque. They are both great motors.

The way I understand it (and what the SMC website states)...
The SS motors have the "American" made wire (not the SM).
The SM motors have a "4023 4mm x 12.3mm rotor".
Whereas the SS motors have a "7.2mm x 12.5mm medium strength rotor"

That looks right.

Also important:
SS-1 = stock/spec winds. 10.5, 13.5, 17.5 (ROAR spec but not approved)
SM-1 = modified winds. 10.5 down to 6.5. You cannot get the SS-1 in these winds(except 10.5) or vice-versa.

Hopefully I will be able to make it out Wednesday to race my SMC motor for the first time, which is an SS-1 ("American" wire) 13.5 but with the SM-1 4023 rotor.

I don't know how much evaluation I will get to do specifically on the motor as it is also my first race with: my new B5 RM, new HW Xtreme Stock ESC, new Airtronics 94770 servo... and opening race at a new indoor facility in my area.

Should be fun... LOL

Does anyone have the Turn rating converted to kv information for the list of SMC motors ?
