Need advice on a proper SMC mod motor. Have a Proline Pro 2 Short Course Buggy purchased and on the way. Came with a MMpro and a 4600KV 4 pole motor. I'm thinking I will keep the ESC and sell the motor.

I want to race this on occasion in a 2wd mod SCB and SCT class. However, I have many other cars and also want to use this as a basher, so having a really fast motor would be ideal too. What turn SMC motor would be ideal? I can always dial back the timing and EPA for the track but want it to be smooth and still perform.

Also - Any updates on performance? Not much here since the motors changed? thanks in advance!

I think an 8.5T would be a good all-arounder for you.

Yup, 8.5 would probably be about perfect. If you step down to the 7.5 you will be running at 50% punch and 70% throttle like I need to do with mine in my 2wd short course truck. It works but it seems like quite a waste.

I was offered a deal with a Tekin RSX and 8.5 Turnigy Trackstar used. I have a limited budget. I either run the Mamba Max pro ESC with the SMC new 8.5t motor. Or I can sell the ESC/Motor and get the Tekin RSX with Turnigy Trakstar (and potentially upgrade motor later. any advice? Is the ESC that much better? Thanks!

The RSX is a nicer ESC than the MMP but there is really nothing wrong with the MMP if you are on a budget. I've also heard good things about the Turnigy motors. If you are on a budget focus on tires and track time and run whatever else you got. The SMC motors are a great budget oriented option.

Thanks BDS. I agree. Buying too much stuff! I have too many surfboards too, but that's another story. In any event, only thing pulling me towards the Tekin is because I happen to have a Rx8 in my Tekno 410.3, and an RS2 in my B5m by default as i happened to find great deals with them already installed.... Wondering if i should keep consistent. I'm sure for a newb like myself I won't notice the difference, will I?

Has anyone else ran into their SMC mod motors being LOUD ? i had a 6.5 v2 in my 4wd buggy, and it sounded absolutley horrible, as if the gearboxes were internally exploding.....so i sent it back to be checked out, and they sent me a brand new one right away ( AWESOME ) i just ran the new one last night for the first time, and in a brand new 4wd buggy (first time out with it) again, the car was very loud, like a tooth missing on the spur gear..... when i got home, i ran the motor with no pinion, and sure enough, this one is loud too, just not as bad. It runs awesome, and doesnt get hot, just wondering HOW common this is.

My new 7.5 is a lot louder than other motors on the track. It is just as smooth and just as fast, just noiser

The turnigy motors are very good but they in my and all others at my tracks experience seem to have lower quality bearings that will wear much sooner than other motors. Just a heads up

a local had a 5,5 sounded like a sick supercharger

Is SkyRC also the OEM of the motors?

Be interested to know how you like this esc. It looks very similiar to the Hobbywing ESC. Price wise the SMC is a good bargain. Might look to try the SMC one out. My SMC motors have ran very well for me with no issues and plenty of speed and power.

Thanks. Was wondering where it was coming from. Nice to know.

SMC will be releasing an updated RF160 soon. Will not be SkyRC/Toro based.

Any one have any experience with the RF120 ESC?

Any word on when they'll be getting motors and ESCs back in stock?

I have 2 of the 120's, had some issues at first, I updated the firmware and they are good togo now.
Danny told me the motors and esc's should be back in stock soon......His supplier keeps pushing the ship date back on them.
