There's no reason to cover the solder posts, fyi. I prefer to see the solder joints as I've found more often than not that this jont can fatigue and "hide" connection issues in the shrink wrap.

IMO, not really. I'm sure the pros or even the regular club racers that are at the track a few days a week may be able to feel that the gen2 is smoother. But for me, the gen2 just needed a little less curve to get the feel I like compared to the gen1.

If you have a HV servo, its worth it. You can set it for normal 6v bec or 7.4v bec.
If you have a savox TG servo... probably worth it, 7a bec.

If you can get $100 for your gen1 and put that towards the $200 gen2, that's something to consider. Once your gen1 fails I think its a little more than $100 for the upgrade so you would come out ahead if you sold a working gen1.

Randy, I know I saw it before but don't recall, $160 or something for the upgrade if you don't have the parts to repair a gen1 sent in for service?

Funny thing... had a backup gen1 forever and haven't needed it (I think almost 2 years now).
Let my buddy use it because his brushless hobbies fried.
What do ya know... that same day I finally needed a backup ESC :lol:

Positive bullet came unsoldered, wire was old and should have been replaced a bullet swap out or two ago.
No smoke, no smell, new power wires... would not power up.
Removed switch, still no power.
Bought a gen2 to finish the day, same wires that were on the ESC I was changing out.
So I guess I will upgrade my gen1 to a gen2 and sell my other gen1 when my buddy is done with it or he can just buy it from me... probably his best option.

Yes both are fresh gen 2. Using samsung laptop on windows 7. I am programming through the fan port.

Solder joint. Less chance of fatigue.
I'll consider cutting it off.
This kit was built for just 4 races in our
Winter races then full tear down till summer.
It's going to be cold. No heat. -3c or so.

Hey everyone,

I need advice please. Just wired up my rx8 gen 2 in my E 3.0 last night, without having the my 1950 t8i hooked up yet. My savox 1256tg servo was seeming to have brown out issues. Never had a problem before using an Orion esc with the same servo. Moving the wheels left to right fast it locks up for a second and all the LEDs on the rx8 blink. Instructions say receiver is losing power, is that a brown out? I welcome any suggestions. Thanks

Sounds like a brownout, do you have a cap to throw in the RX to try your test with again?

Also have you tried upping the BEC voltage in the RX8 via the hotwire to 7.4v?

Also, I don't think anyone mentioned, but your fan is mounted upside down. Always mount sticker side down. ;)
