Its a good idea with the gen2 to place the fan on the unit. Put it on the mode where it only comes on when needed and your fan will last forever.

They won't allow for host controller use, plain and simple. This is why you only see bluetooth or wi fi control use with Mac/Apple products.

Android has apps that control remote cameras and other devices while directly connected via usb...go figure.

There are minimum requirements (mostly having a more recent version of the Android operating system) that will block the app from working on some devices, but for anyone that has bought a mid to upper tier smart phone in the last 2 years should be able to run no problem. Your Galaxy shouldn't have any issues.
