Thanks guys!

Something that that help some people here that happened this weekend. Barry changed radios and receivers since he drove his buggy last time. When he turned it on this weekend the ESC did not boot up, but you could see the LED's move as he gave it gas but the wheels did not move.
We checked all the physical wire connections first. Then I fired up the computer and the Neutral width. It was set to 10. I bumped it up to 15 and turned the ESC back on and it booted up and worked.
Just FYI

Warning: We don't condone the use of Calgon or other water softeners on any Tekin esc ;)

New Hot Wire software

I have a combination of RX8 and RX8 Gen 2's. Can I use the new 238 software for both?

fq06 07-04-2013 07:17 AM

Download the new firmware for both the gen1 and gen2. Gen1 will run Gen 1 firmware and Gen2 will run the Gen2, one download.

It knows the difference between my rspro, rage and rx8
Somehow hotwire will know which ESC is plugged in and use the appropriate firmware (magic inside?).

Hotwire

Sounds great, Thanks!

Don't give in to the low ball, the Gen1 is worth more than that. You will find a reasonable buyer soon so as long as you don't need a quick sale, don't let go of it for less than $100.

I'd keep it for a back up before I sold it for anywhere close to $100.

RiceP 07-05-2013 06:17 PM

Yup I sold them both for 125 each shipped it was just crazy all the low ball offers even had one guy wanted both for $110 together lol. I do have another rx8 gen2 for back up my first one from thebarnfloor and my second from amain that just can off a two month back order

Hey, new guy here. My experience with the RX8 combo...
I just installed a gen2 with 2250 t8 in my tmaxx conversion and had a "slight" issue. I installed it last night, ran it around my basement for about 2 min then went to bed, woke up today and went to go do some bashing. It worked great for about 5 min, about 10 passes at 1/2 throttle. Then I went full throttle and as soon as I did i got the magic smoke (mine was red/pink) the receiver fried along with both servos (using 1 servo for the mech brakes). I ran to the truck and so did my daughters (because the smoke was pink, lol) and it was billowing smoke, I kicked it away from my daughters for safety (thought it was a lipo that burst at first) this caused 2 screws on the fan to scuff indicating it was hit (more on this later). Ripped the lipos out and what a mess. The case is melted all around the solder posts melted out of the PCB and case and shorted. One of the lipos is puffed. Solder all over the chassis, ya it was that hot, and this was tin/copper/nickel not lead.

Im not going to say i wouldn't recommend it but im a little uneasy about it right now. The thing was fast for about a second and tons of power for the truck.

Do you guys think they will give me a problem replacing the esc? even though the screws are scuffed up a bit...
I sent an RMA request and sent them pictures of the esc, its pretty bad

is that heat-shrink over the posts? not saying that was the problem but that could be a cause of overheating as the posts act as a heatsink as well

fq06 07-05-2013 11:58 PM

That sucks, no doubt.

A failure to that magnitude must be a short somewhere. All you can do is send it in and your on your way with submitting an RMA. Since its still within the warranty period, if they find a defect, you'll get a new one no cost. If they don't find a defect, at least it won't cost you an arm & a leg for a new one.
Just a guess without going to their site... $50ish + shipping.

Most valuable besides the low replacement cost will be their consultation on what went wrong with the wiring to avoid that when you get your new one back.

Randy or someone may have an idea of what happened just from looking at it but send it in asap to get in line for another one.

Edit:
Yeah romain, your right, no heat shrink on solder posts on any esc. 5 min even at 1/2 throttle is enough to get temps up. But not sure if it would get to that magnitude.

Ya, that's shrink. The posts won't do much on their own but with 12gu wire that should wick the heat away better than air could anyway.
