Hi mav,

Thanks for that! It kept working all through until I turned it off. Thing is I live in Sri Lanka and shipping both ways to the us is pretty close to the cost of a new RX8.

This might be premature, but I just want to understand it. I read in the latest RC Car Action about a new Hotwire app for Android based tablets and phones w/ a USB connection. My Hotwire runs to a full sized USB connector and my Samsung Tab has a micro USB port. If I pick up a micro USB to micro USB cable would this work? Seems like it should. Or do you think you'll need a full sized USB port to run the new app?

I just messed around w my Samsung Tab 3 and I'm really interested to hear how this new app is going to work for Android devices. I can't seem to figure out how you would connect a micro USB to the Hotwire box, which needs a mini USB connection. Is it only going to work on Android devices with full sized USB ports?

Randy or Ty can you guys chime in at all? Thanks

Cables not a problem... we just need the app.

Interesting. I really didn't think they made that type of cable. Even with it, the question is will this setup work or will I have to find some sort of OTG cable for micro USB? There's currently one for 10 inch Samsung tablets that converts their 30 pin to full sized USB.

After reading your post fq, I think I figured it out. People running Android devices with micro usb ports should be able to use an OTG like this.

Basically just changes the micro USB to USB 2.0 which can accept the Hotwire cable.

Now just need the app :)

Yeah, we need the app asap! The cable does nothing without

I don't think you would need old school USB anywhere in the chain. You would be going from micro USB in the android direct to mini USB or whatever it is in the hotwire.

The big USB would only be needed if you were tethering your phone to your laptop for online access or something unrelated to hotwire.

Yup, I think you're correct on not needing the USB 2.0 anywhere. The micor to mini cable would do the trick.

What you will need is the proper "OTG" cable for your device.

Again, no. Simply pick up the proper "OTG" cable for your device. As long as your device supports OTG tech, Honeycomb or higher OS, you're nearly there ;)

Thanks Randy. I found an OTG cable last night that should do the trick once the app is released. Any time table on a release date?

Randy_Pike 08-05-2013 09:06 AM

Guys the OTG cables have some specific pic layouts that we've assured work. Some of the other cables skip these required pins. They may work, they may not.

I use OTG cables to hook up thumb drivers on my tablet to watch movies I don't want stored on the internal SD car. You can also hook up other USB devices with this, mouse, keyboards, etc.

Any chance you have the pin layouts that work? I have a Samsung Tab 8 and it uses micro usb. I'm assuming an OTG cable to goes micro usb (into the tablet) to mini usb (into the hotwire) should work???
