That sucks, no doubt.

A failure to that magnitude must be a short somewhere. All you can do is send it in and your on your way with submitting an RMA. Since its still within the warranty period, if they find a defect, you'll get a new one no cost. If they don't find a defect, at least it won't cost you an arm & a leg for a new one.
Just a guess without going to their site... $50ish + shipping.

Most valuable besides the low replacement cost will be their consultation on what went wrong with the wiring to avoid that when you get your new one back.

Randy or someone may have an idea of what happened just from looking at it but send it in asap to get in line for another one.

Edit:
Yeah romain, your right, no heat shrink on solder posts on any esc. 5 min even at 1/2 throttle is enough to get temps up.

The posts were not the failure point as far as I can tell. All the shrink is intact. I didn't put any on the batt leads. There was no short anywhere. I think one of the fest inside shorted or something and that's what gave the initial pink red puf of smoke. When I first approached the truck the posts were intact, they only fell out when I unplugged the lipos.

Wow that suxs I had a tmaxx with a conversion with old rx8 ran for about a year no issues I would say that something had to short maybe a loose post after soldering had a buddy get one to hot and messed up the post internally and burned it up looked like yours but his Ran fine at house but first jump at track and it was smoked total melt down on 6s in a truggy

Yeah, not saying user error, but must be a short somewhere. Inline from batts or ESC or whatever.
In the future though, don't heat shrink posts, those disapate heat so they want to be bare. Not saying that's what caused it, just saying they are better left bare.

Tekin will take care of you, just send it in once your get the rma#.

I'm quite confident it wasn't my soldering, I'm an electronics engineer and chief technical officer for a well know pro audio company and imo the one people go to when the mess crap up.

I.understand one off problems happen and I'm about 100 % positive it wasn't.anything on myppart that caused it to fail. I took all the precautions, heat sunk the base of the posts when soldering them and everything.

Hi Ty,

What settings should I use on my Gen 2 with a Pro4HD 4300? Please let me know? Thanks

Mullet1 07-06-2013 08:21 AM

found a bug or something like that.

2 different cars we pulled the data logs. put fresh charged batteries in each and BOTH cars do the 3 flashing lights that say low battery. put another fresh battery in each.....same thing. plugged Hotwire up again and updated software (both already had updated software) and this fixed the issue. Frustrating finding this out when it was time to do a qualifier. thankfully they waited (I used my backup SCT410 for this qualifier juuuust incase it was a long term issue).

So with the gen2 esc it has the adapter for the hot wire that allows plugging into the fan port. Super convenient.... Unless you forget the adapter on your bench at home. I've got a hotwire on my bench at home and one in my pit bag. I left the adapter plugged into my hot wire at home. :flaming: Can the gen2 rx8 connect to the hot wire the old fashioned way using the lead to the receiver? Need to figure out how to make changes while at the track today.. .

Yes you can still program through the receiver wire.

You can buy another adapter as well! http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...otWire-Adapter

Hey, new guy here. My experience with the RX8 combo...
I just installed a gen2 with 2250 t8 in my tmaxx conversion and had a "slight" issue. I installed it last night, ran it around my basement for about 2 min then went to bed, woke up today and went to go do some bashing. It worked great for about 5 min, about 10 passes at 1/2 throttle. Then I went full throttle and as soon as I did i got the magic smoke (mine was red/pink) the receiver fried along with both servos (using 1 servo for the mech brakes). I ran to the truck and so did my daughters (because the smoke was pink, lol) and it was billowing smoke, I kicked it away from my daughters for safety (thought it was a lipo that burst at first) this caused 2 screws on the fan to scuff indicating it was hit (more on this later). Ripped the lipos out and what a mess. The case is melted all around the solder posts melted out of the PCB and case and shorted. One of the lipos is puffed. Solder all over the chassis, ya it was that hot, and this was tin/copper/nickel not lead.

Im not going to say i wouldn't recommend it but im a little uneasy about it right now. The thing was fast for about a second and tons of power for the truck.

Do you guys think they will give me a problem replacing the esc? even though the screws are scuffed up a bit...
I sent an RMA request and sent them pictures of the esc, its pretty bad

pics --> imgur.com/a/szFqJ

I had a similar problem as to you but mine went up in flames soon as i hit the gas just fill out the paper send it in no questions asked you will have a new one in about a week i did tekin is awesome

rx8

Ok so I got a bit of a brain teaser I've been having trouble for a few months with my 1/8 buggy it will just stop operating randomly all the lights will be on on the sec and it will show throttle position however it won't move I either have to let it sit for a min or unplug and plug back in the esc I have replaced receiver the esc and added glitch buster the only 2 variables that remain are the motor or battery has anyone ever had a t8 motor cause this issue before

mydudrevo 07-07-2013 06:02 PM

Sounds like its thermalling to me

Kinda what I was thinking but the motor only hits 160 and the esc only hits 140 what is the thermal cutoff for an rx8

timamybrown 07-07-2013 06:41 PM

Ran the Gen 2 with the 4300 HD in my tekno. I have to say I'm pretty pleased. What kind of motor temp should I be looking for. As of now in running a 15 pinion and 44 spur and its coming off the track at 170 after 8min main.

From what i remember is around 200 220 so you should be fine check your cut off voltage that can cause the esc to shut down depending on how many cells you are running

As far as I know rx8 is idiot proof you can only set the number of cells
