Cut the legs off the chip with a pair of dykes.
Then Desolder each leg & pull out with pliers when hot. Remove as soon as solder melts. Then clean hole with wick or use a solder sucker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/280707145333?lpid=82 |

It smd not through hole. Removing the chip and cleaning the pads is easy. Getting it back on is the hard part (at least for me).

Did you manage to get the IC off? I think I am the opposite of you. Soldering the new one would be easier for me then taking the old one off. Thanks for the feedback!!

man now im glad mine is stuck in Romulus  I get all the feedback:smile:

How you going to try putting it back on ,one at a time?
|
Well... I'll be a monkeys ............ uncle! It works!
I cranked up my iron to 790 and fiddled with the solder wick and solder sucker. I was able to clean up the legs and get the chip on nice and clean. I tested all the legs out with my ohm meter and none of them were shorting so I went for it- Turned it on (it fires right up.. no smoke or fire-OK!) bind it to one model- OK! Switched models (It warned me to shut off my first models so I did) and then bound to a 2nd model- OK! Last test- Shut off 2nd model and select model 1 on the radio, turn on model 1- OK! Finally! This radio is working as it is supposed to. What a pita though... Only time will tell if it is all worth it. So, take your time, make sure your soldering iron is hot and you should be good to go. |

I cleaned off the pads with the iron tip and then laid the chip on the board in the proper orientation. Next I just tinned the legs to the pad. Start with one as carefully as you can with the least amount of solder you can muster. Once you get one on you can pretty much run the iron across the legs one at a time (adding a little solder to the tip in between legs) and tin them. The solder should stick to the pads and legs rather easily. Just watch out for solder shorts. You should double check non of the legs adjacent to each other are shorted together with an ohm meter. Once it checks out for shorts it should be good to go. |

Ok so got the old IC chip off with a dremel (YES A DREMEL!!) and small cutting disc. Used the soldering iron tip to remove pins left from dremeling if that is even a word. Placed the new IC chip in correct orientation. A quick tap at each pin with the soldering iron and presto its on. Then the frustration kicked in. After putting it all back together and testing it out on multiple receivers no dice. Same binding issue has before. Kicking and screaming wondering why the heck this did not work. :ha: wait a minute the Firmware on mine was 1.01US could that be it? Yes it is upgraded to 1.02US and BAM all is freaking well now. Thanks a billion MikeGozz for the firmware link. Freaking stoked and ready to drive if it was not so mucking cold outside. FlySky_Jerry came through after all. (Never again would I want to go through this issue more research in my future purchases):D:D:D:D |
You know, I have to be a total idiot!!!!!!!!
I just flashed the firmware. Guess what, WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! I have Version 1.02-US Hardware 1.0 07-12-2-13 tx id 00ec0XXX I was able to get the jumper wires in place and all is working the correct way. If you are wondering about this. Read this. Well I am sooooo boned!!! I was all setup, taking my time. I was on the last 2 legs to de-solder. I feel it coming but say I can do this. I try to hold it back, almost done, I can do this, nope AAAAAHHHHHHHCHOOOOOOOOOOO!!! stabbed my finger with a hot soldering iron, board went flying. I tore the solder pads off two spots on the board. One is an easy fix. I just need to solder a small wire to the trace, then to the leg, done it before. The other one went into the board so there is very little to solder to. I did try to repair it. But no dice. Radio does work, binds to each Rx still but does not hold the Rx in memory. Still have one option I hope will work out. We will see what happens with plan B. Buzz. |

We need to have a new club. We can call it the HOMER club. DOH!!!
So nice to to have this working and complete. I tested it by have model one selected and turning on model 2 truck. Nothing happens. Hit the buttons and select model 2 and BAM, driving the truck. This radio is freakin awesome now. Buzz. |
I got my 'new' IC chip today. No way I can put it in(I'll brick it for sure)!!!!!!!!!!!!
