If you are charging a 5000 mah pack 1C would be 5 amps, 2c 10 amps, 3c 15 amps.
That charger would not even be capable of charging a 5000mah pack at 1c.

Do some people do it...yes, I had a 6500mah pack and my charger would only do 6 amps......6.5 amps would have been 1c. It's not going to kill your pack pre say but you will not get maximum performance out of your packs either.

I have Danny's 7200mah - 70C packs

Seems like the Multi 4 is a little underpowered....Should I go up to the Powerlab 6, which charges at a max of 40A?

Another question for ya, At what point do you need a power supply?

Thanks again!

You sure need one for a Powerlab.Edit= you always need a power supply on a DC charger, if, you want to use house currant.

When I asked Danny about chargers a while back he suggested the powerlab 6 to me, It's what he uses. Kinda pricey but when you compare how much you already have tied up in just one RC it really isn't that bad.

You have to make your own or buy one. A charger may or may not come with charge leads that have the plugs of a users's choice. Most people just solder on whichever plugs they want. You need this if you want to use Deans on your batteries.

I have been using a powerlab 6 for a year now. Best charger I have seen so far. If u get a parallel board for it you can charge 6 batteries at once. There are guys at the track that have trouble getting one battery charged for the next heat. I charge 5 with out a problem.
Epbuddy.com had all the boards and adapters you would need at a good price to.

I'd also checkout the icharger duo models, I have the big version and it's great, has a lot larger screen then other chargers and it's easy to use, you don't have to scroll through multiple screens to find the information or mode you want to use. The power labs are great and powerful charger but there screen is still harder to navigate through etc, both brands will serve you well and both will look after your packs better then any other charger, I don't believe people put enough emphasis on a good charger and how they look after/condition there batteries better, not to mention you'll be out on the track faster.

I got the power lab 6 combo from buddyrc.com. Part # SKU: FMA-PL6C1
The combo comes with the usb adapter so u came program it from your computer. It makes it easier to set up the presets.
Then i got a paraboard from them with deans connectors. It lets u charge 6 batteries in parallel. You can get them with any connector u want.

For a power supply i got a hp server power supply off of ebay for 20 shipped

Pm me if u have anymore questions..

Probably been asked a million times but I cant find it with search.

At what rate should you charge a 1 cell 3.7v 4000mAh 25c Spec pack for 17.5 carpet oval racing? Looking for good power/run time but want the packs to last a while.

Thats a loaded question right there. Personally I would charge at 2-3C which would be 8-12 amps. That being said oval racers are a different breed, I know some in lower Michigan that are charging their packs at 6c and sometimes higher. The track owner tried to impose a limit of 14amps on them but that didn't work so he got a stock of lipo charging bags and made them buy them.

Charging at 2-3c will not harm your cells and they will get a good full charge and it won't take too long. Danny has told us several times his cells can handle 6c but he does not reccomend it as it will shorten the usable life of the pack and the way lipo chargers work there is no way it will get an actual full charge when you are charging that high.
