Danny,

I am wondering your thoughts on letting batteries cool before charging again. If so, how long do you recommend. FYI I usually wait at least 40 min. before charging again...

That's a good question. Because my packs always charge cool-to-the-touch I thought that it was OK to charge them if I just pulled them out of a truck a bit warm. (i.e. they're going to cool at the same rate anyways, since charging isn't adding heat).

If charging them when they're still a bit warm is hurting them... then I've been damaging mine on track days (for bashing there's never a rush to charge)

I'm not Danny but I see no issue with charging a warm pack just out of the car. Charging lipos does not add any heat. This ain't red cell NiCad days.

In my totally un-scientific opinion, charging a warm lipo pack might actually be better for it as a warm back has lower IR than a cooler pack.

I've always wondered the same, we'll see what the master has to say, but lipo warming was a bit of a thing before ROAR banned it due to the home made contraptions people were using, but a warm pack has a lower IR and should get a better charge with less wear on the pack, meanwhile some say let them cool first. I've never heard a clear educated response.

They shouldnt be much warmer than ambient temperature. If they are, something in your setup is off.

You can just start charging as soon as your done, but I like to let them sit for 5-10 so the cells can equalize.

Started to fill out pre-orders today. We won't have enough to fill out all pre-orders. I will post up to what number we were able to make it tomorrow afternoon.

You can charge them when they are warm especially if you use 1C or 2C for charge rates. They will actually cool down while charging as at those rates it really doesn't heat up the cells much.

My cycle life testing consists of 50 back to back cycles with 10 minute delays and after this test a good pack only drops 0.8 to 1.2% of it's mAh and the IR stays the same.

I've never had a lipo warm up during a race. They get popped right back on the charger after marshaling duties so they get about a 10min resting period between use and re-charge.

Real quick question. I bought two packs from you and noticed something a little strange about one of my 2S 5100's. I always balance charge both packs. For some reason on the second balance charge of battery number 2 it will only charge to 4.19 and 4.2 volt each. The other cell will balnce charge to 4.2-4.2. Is this normal?

Thanks,

Eric

I guess you've never ran SC before, my SCTE warms the bats up pretty good. 110 to 115 when ambient is 95ish.

Good to now I can charge right after running, I usually let them sit for 5-10 mins before I start to charge them.
