I thought from your post, you meant they should be ambient temp.

I was leaning towards the 6500.. Is that all heats and races on one charge? If so that's rad! I am running novice at that so it's 4/4/5 so that would be cool if I only needed one? I have the X4 hitec charger it only goes to 6amps? charging it lower wont hurt will it?

no, charging lower than 1c would never hurt a bat. I would bet hes charging between races. Its easy to throw your bat on the charger at 6amp between races, I would be impressed tho, if some one was using 1 battery with just one charge for the hole race.

Thanks,

Wish I would have an answer as to why this is happening but I don't. That really isn't a big difference and nothing to worry about.

What kind of charger do you have ?

I'm sure if I was to charge this pack on my PL8 that both cells would be the same. I think some chargers don't balance at the same level. For example the PL8 has all kinds of adjustments to set the precision of the balancing so I could set it to not balance as well or set it to balance real well. I suspect it might have to do with the resistance the your charger is seeing but this is just a theory.

You can use the same pack 40 times in a day if you want all it does is use up it's cycle life. So whether you run it 40 times in one day or 1 time a day for 40 days this is basically the same for the pack.

What I recommend is you have 2 packs as it's always good to have a spare plus if you go for practice days you can run a pack while the other is charging so basically you could be on the track all day long with very small delays between runs.

If you plan on being in RC a good charger with higher charging capabilities is a good thing. Your 4 channel charger is OK but in my opinion a charger with one channel that can do 12 to 20 amps is better.

So, at what amps could I completely safely charge the shorty packs? Planning to buy a few and motors to go with them.

Speaking of charger adjustments, I also have a PL8. Do you mind sharing your presets for accurate, high power and storage charging modes?

You can charge up to 30 amps and the pack will take it but the problem at these higher rates is most chargers will not give you a full charge. With that in mind I think 10 to 15 amps is ideal.

Never used accurate.

I use high power. I don't have access to the CCV program now but here are the key things I set. All the rest is pretty much what they have it set at.

Balancing:

Start at 4v

1000mAh

Only on charge not on discharge.

Termination:

Manual termination set at 500mAh. What this does is regardless of the amp rate you charger at the pack will always get the same amount of charge. So at 2 amps or 40 amps you will get the same charge.

Charging:

4.205V per cell

Use the amp rate you prefer for charging.

That's all I can think of for now.

Storage mode I use how they have it setup and will use a higher amp rate if I'm in a hurry.

Hope this helps.

Danny,

I just bought a PL-6 with a FMA board to charge multiple packs at once. Should I use the same settings listed above? Also what is FMA wiring mode vs. XH/EH. What are your batteries setup for?

Thanks Gregg

How much larger is 2x 2S race packs vs 1x 4S. I'd like to get some batteries, but I'd rather not wait for the next shipment. Just trying to get a feel for how much taller it will be.

Hey Danny,

Just ordered a few shorty packs from you and was curious which power supply you're using for the PL8. I'm currently using the Hitek X4 and agree with you. It's cool to charge 4 at once, but the 6 amps is just too slow. I'm in between the PL8 and the Hyperion 720 Duo. I like that the Hyperion can put out 2 x 500 watts. I run 3 classes usually and the ability to charge 2 packs at once is a nice option.

Thanks.

I just bought a HP server power supply off of Ebay for $50. Puts out 47 amps and 575 watts for my PL-6

I love my power lab! I run a lot of classes at big races and it keeps up, I use to need two chargers.
