This recommendation seemed to work for me as my wire was routed on top of the circuit board. I tucked the cable under the top circuit board and re-routed the wire through the end of the receiver. Fixed the problem. My receiver already has the latest in software update as I got it only a week ago.
Look below for instructions if you haven't already seen it. It's from Spektrums website. Took me 5 minutes to fix and doesn't shut the communication between the car and transmitter off for me even after the most severe crash.

Simple Fix for Module "Shut Down" Issue
11/02/05

A few of our customers are experiencing a “shut down” condition with their Spektrum module systems. A “shut down” can occur in a hard crash, or while running in a specific area of the track. It is characterized by a loss of power to the servos. To reactivate the system, it is necessary to turn the receiver off, and then back on again to resume normal operation. Shut downs are most prevalent when racing on carpet due to static electricity, however they can also occur on any surface during a hard crash.

This issue is not a related to DSM technology, but is a result of an improperly routed antenna inside the transmitter, which causes a compromised link quality. If you’ve experienced a “shut down”, please return your transmitter module to Spektrum’s service center for quick repair, which involves installing a new, longer internal antenna wire with the correct routing. While this issue affects relatively few modules, you can easily check your transmitter module to determine if your system has the proper routing - refer to the instructions below.

We apologize for this inconvenience. We are committed to achieving perfect reliability and your total satisfaction with Spektrum products.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR TRANSMITTER MODULE

Using a Phillips screwdriver carefully remove the case from your module and examine the antenna connection to the board:

Correct

Note the antenna coax is routed under the main radio board.

Incorrect

The antenna coax is routed over the board in close proximity to power capacitors and IC’s compromising signal integrity. Please return to Spektrum for service. In the case of Futaba Hitec modules, a longer antenna wire will be needed.

I just purchased the 2 receiver special that Spectrum has and have some questions...

1. Which battery pack and charger is best fir the transmitter?
2. With 2 receivers do I have to bind each one when I switch cars that have different receivers?
3. Any other tips/warnings/etc that I should be aware of?

THX in advance...

1.Not sure, I think they are pretty standard though. Ask you LHS. You can probably get some Nimh rechargables and just charge them on your charger if you have an ICE or similar charger

2. Nope. Each just has to be binded once.

3. Works pretty well for me so none from me.

Thank you, I was wondering if there a battery pack that worked better than other ones...

Nova, I just bought a package at Sam's about an hour ago; (8) 2500 mah AA's and (4) 850 mah AAA's with a quick charger for $25.

You might also want to check the polarity of the charge plug on the transmitter. Since it was built off of the JR design, it might be negative center post. Check before you charge!

THX everyone with the batts and the polarity info.. I'd hate to fry it before I had a chance to crash my car...

Nova, I use a Radioshack wall blister, 273-1614M to charge these batts in my XS3. This puts out 10V, 850ma and seems to fully recharge in 3 or 4 hours. I check the handle after about 2 hours, and then every 20 or so minutes until it feels warm.

They give you your choice of tips, the one to use is "M" with the tip "-". The Spektrum uses the same tip as the JR.

We got this setup for Sharon to put in her new Spektrum. The Shack we went to did not have the 10V in stock so we decided to sub a 12V 1000ma adapter. I checked on the radio after an hour or so, and the handle was cool. I fell asleep and woke about 45-50 minutes later to gunshots.

Well, not gunshots, the cells melted the handle and one exploded. It shot out of the handle, went through 3 slats of the verticle blinds and ricocheted off of the sliding glass door. Now I was well awake.

I gathered my senses and went to the radio, unplugged the charger and shook the oozing mass of batts and plastic batt holder onto the floor. This little escapade cost about $100 (inc. UPS) for Spektrum to replace the handle.

FYI; my overnight charger for my airplane radio is 10.8V and 55ma

and the lesson is never use chargers that don't have peak detection
Otherwise your only guessing how much charge to put in and overcharging does reduce capacity of batteries.

NEW SPEKTRUM SYSTEM

New Spektrum Pro systems are coming! 2.6ms latency times:

http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/D...ProdID=SPM1014

Now here is the kicker:

"While the original system adds just 5.6 milliseconds (that’s 5.6
thousandths of a second), to your radio’s own processing time, the new
Pro System’s module and receiver combine to lower this already miniscule
figure to a scant 2.6 milliseconds. It all adds up to lightning fast
response and it’s sure to have racers feeling more connected than ever."

Did all you guys out there who can't understand why we feel the Spektrum
system is slower read that? Read it again if you didn't see it the first
time.

"the original system ADDS just 5.6 milliseconds ..."

My question is to have 2.6msec latency, do you need to change both the RX and tx module? what if you mix and match?

Default Slammin'

Hey Xing,

Gotta ask why you feel the need to slam all products that don't meet your expert opinions. With what you keep posting about spintech product and all why don't you tell us what major races you won. Usually I don't post stuff like this but you bash stuff and most of the time its for no reason. If you don't like the product sell it then move on.

So is the only difference between these two units 0.6ms response time?

Any idea if either of these is backwards compatible with the old receivers? I could possibly stand to buy a faster system if I can use my older receiver in another car.

Xing,

Actually I have not been to bed yet thanks. Again I feel its good to have opinions but just no need to bash. Fair enough? I have a spintech batt man and spektrum stuff also. Are they perfect, no but nothing really is.

steve,

who is bashing specktrum? i not sure how i can be as it was a copy/paste from spektrum's website. and i not allowed to ask question about backwards compatability?

i have one of the original specktrum from last year. it has been worth EVERY CENT i paid and more!!!!

though i have spent alot of thing on rc many of it turned out to be junk.

anyway, we have enough people sucking up to companies and promoting their products just to get free stuff/discount. if i wanted to start xxx company, selling batteries or motors or fuel or whatever..(its not rocket science to match batteries or mix fuel).. just go and give 20 or so people some "sponsership" and watch them go out "this is better, its faster, its cooler". it usually best to give these sponsership to little kids coz they are so desperate to keep their $5 discount. .it happens here all the time.

i just give a unbiased PERSONAL view, and so can you...

cheers
