10 volts 4700uf. Available from JayCar for $1.66...

4700uf 10v power capacitor

I have one installed on my Nosram Dominator Evolution (Quantum Competition 2)...

The cap will only hold the voltage of the battery pack. So 10v is correct...

Actually, I belive the working voltage of the Novak 4700mf capacitor is 16 v. If you get one that has a working voltage of 10 volts, thats even better.

Here is my experience with the spektrum.. The system: KO Helios with a KO servo 2144; esc KO VFS-1; 3700's with a 19T reedy quad mag motor. Problems I had with the spectrum was rx totally shut down at the start of my 2nd qualifer; six seconds later, my car took off. During the A-main, John Scott, Aaron Young, and myself were all in contension for 1st in 19T. I was in 1st place for the first few laps, and I got a glitch at the middle of the chicane causing John Scott to pass me on the inside. 2nd glitch: At the end of the chicane, my car shot to the left which opened up the door for Young to pass. Through-out the whole race, I got glitches at the chicane and the end of the straight-away. This also happened before at another race at a different location ( Hobbytown USA ).

So, im confused on what to do. Should I buy another receiver and return the existing spectrum system ??? I also heard that after a year of continous use, that the helios should be sent back to KO propo to have the pods checked or changed out. I dunno what to do. Any advice or help is much appreciated. Thanks guys.

It seems that the receiver requires a minium of 6 volts, so under heavy loads or if you start to dump on your last lap you could be susceptible to a receiver shutdown/Fail-Safe.....

Will Spektrum be releasing a 5 volt version of there receiver now to combat this issue?

Roger,

I have the same radio with my Spektrum. When I tried the KO2343 servo with my QC2 esc, I had the same problem with shutdowns. Ditched the KO2343 and went back to an Airtronics 94357. Problem gone.

I did have a separate shutdown issue with my first Spektrum receiver. They replaced the receiver during the week of the Reedy Race and problem was cured.

I just got mine today and used it with no problems at all. Hoever, when the battery dumped on the track, it just went into failsafe mode. I too am using the Airtronics servo (94357) but with a GTX esc. Must say that I am very happy with my purchase!!!

Leonard.

I've had my Spektrum for sometime now and never have any of the "glitches" that was mentioned in this thread. I have it on my oval car Hyperdrive SSE PRO2 using 3PK, Keyence Zero V Ext ESC, Futaba digital servos, 4 cell 3300 GP, Spec stock motor. Just to be on the safe side, I have a Novak power capacitor on the SR3000 receiver. I also put a small ferrite magnets on the leads coming out of Keyence goin to the RX. I was told to do this because of 4cell racing situation. I'm racing it at BMS occasionally and everything seems to be fine, so far. Try to use the power capacitor and the ferrite magenets if you are having problem. Hope this helps.

Upon further inspection and research, I also remember my steering and throttle setttings to have a totally different setting on my helios radio. My steering balance was at (R) 68% and (L) 98%. My throttle high point was at 150% while the brake was set at 30% ????? I checked on the spectrum website and apparently, some drivers encountered the same situation mentioned above. Im gonna send the spectrum to Horizon this week. In the mean time, i'l be running crystals until I get it back

I just set my Spektrum up, bound straight away, but had to knock the throttle trim back alittle. Fail safe works sweet, so will take the car for a run at the track in the weekend. I have another receiver for one of many cars, so just need to decide which one will be running DSM as well.

I had issues with my Quantum 1 and a Futaba 9550 Servo.
I put a receiver pack in and it fixed it.
But I plan to take the receiver pack out and just use a cap to conserve on weight.
I am going to use a 4700uf, 16v cap.
Would have preferred a 10v but the 16v was all they had at the shop I went to.

Many years ago we use to run our high-end FET servo's from a separate power wire from the speedie. This was to provide a little more power to the servo then what was available by the BEC via the receiver.

I was thinking (and now out loud) that the blue wire out of the QC2 speedie could be used to provide additional power to the spektrum transceiver. I've had a quick look on LRP's website but couldn't find anything on this wire.

Does anyone know if it could be used in this way?

One of those servos was the KO PS-1001, I still run one in my old tourer.

Using that blue wire will give higher then 6V, so will need something to drop the voltage back, I have a chock?? in the line of my PS-1001 servo as its hooked straight off the esc power.

That blue wire is the same level as the positive tab on your battery what means a nominal voltage of 7.2 volts. Donīt know if this is good for your spektrum receiver but I donīt think it is a good idea. Also I never have seen one here using a different voltage on the Spektrum receiver than the 6volt right from the ESC. And you canīt use the ESC BEC voltage and an external one at the same time, I think something will go out in smoke.

Yes itīs a choke what your using but this isnīt for reducing the voltage. Itīs used for keeping harmful voltage spikes away from the servo.

I have a Spektrum in my TNX, which has a 6-cell reciever pack in it (7.2v). Works great.

The pack is from a Aerobird park flyer...I just changed the plug. It fits in the box perfectly and I can get three tanks out of it.
