Hello guys,
I just received my two Spektrum sets for the Futaba radio.
I'm sorry to have to inform you that both receivers have a power issue probably due to the old software beeing installed.
At first I tried it with a Shulze U-force 75 speed controller and a Futaba Digital S9451 servo. This combination gave no problems at all.
Then I tried it with a Nosram Dominator Evolution speed control and a Futaba Digital S9450 servo. Again no problem.
Last I tried it with the same Nosram Dominator Evolution speed control and a Ko Propo Digital PDS-2343FET servo. Now big problems. The light on the receiver goes on and off and the servo moves eratically.
The Ko Propo servo is the fastest servo I have got and probably in consequence draws the most power.
I tried it again but with a 4700 capacitator installed and all problems disappeared as by wonder.
Anybody else have the same Ko Propo servo and speed controller and has tried it with the Spektrum system ?
One tip: it is the combination of the Nosram speed controller and the Ko Propo servo which doesn't seem to work. When I tried the Ko Propo in combination with the Schulze speed control it worked fine.
I already sent an email to Spektrum about reprogramming the receivers. I wonder how long it will take for them to answer.

I dont think any Programming is going to change the power consumption.
I got a "New" receiver, and had to use a capacitor as well. I am only using JR 4735/4750 servos. But using QC1/2 speedos.
I doubt you will see any difference after sending them in. Why waste the time when a $5 cap does the trick?
It just works out that some speedos just don't supplly enough current to run all the stuff. Keep in mind the receiver is also a transmitter (transceiver), and completing more sophisticated conversion of the digital to analog signal. (No conversion in regualr FM)

Also my opinion but since I live in Belgium, Europe I did send them an email on what to send back (only receivers or also the transmitters), what shipping methods they offer and also how long it will take.
Don't want to have to wait a few months before I see them again

I installed my Spektrum system three days ago; no problems at all. I find that my steering is too fast, i guess that is what happens when you jump from an Airtronics Caliber 3PS to an M8!
I thought I was gonna have some issues with the Cyclone TC, but apparently it wasn't the case. Now I gotta order some 4700uf capacitors, cause my motors are overheating........

I've used the Spektrum indoors and gave feedback on how well it worked, but recently got to use it outdoors as well. Works as advertised!
Our track has a pit lane which keeps on-track mayhem from killing new cars coming onto the track. It's nice to turn my car on in pit lane, but leave the transmitter off until I'm ready to roll out.
Necessary, no. Cool, yes!
The other nice feature ..... not waiting for frequency clips during practice.
I like it.

I got to use mine at a race here in korea last week and I had no problems at all. Besides the little problem of them insisting I put my radio in impound like everyone else
I tried explaining the whole DSM thing to them but my Korean consists of two words, "hello" and "thankyou"

some feedback. my helios version is working great indoors in ahrs mode. for helios users, i believe that the mode just changes the processor frame rate, not transmit speed. that is probably why we can use in ahrs mode.

I contacted John Adams with regards to the compatibility of LRP's ESC products with SPEKTRUM DSM System. Specifically I was curious to know if LRP's SPHERE (Brushless ESC) would experience the same problems that have been reported with the QC2 ESC when used with SPEKRUM's DSM System.

Here is what he said:
"The new programming greatly improves the servo issues however when using an ESC with a weak BEC some servos still need the capacitor. The LRP ESC is the worst when used with the new KO digital servos (especially when running 4 cells). The capacitor fixes the issue however. The Airtronics servo hasn't been an issue. I haven't tried the LRP Brushless yet but supposedly LRP is improving the BEC circuit on all new controllers."
Hope the SPHERE ESC works smoothly with the SPEKTRUM set-up as it does with my Novak Brushless System.
I use the Novak Brushless System for both 2WD and 4WD Off-Road and so far it has worked flawlessly indoors and outdoors! I decided to pass all this info on to Reto Koenig (LRP R&D Manager) but so far he hasn't sent a reply or posted a response on the LRP Forum?!

My KO 2343/GT7 combo was also giving symptoms of low BEC and after being serviced by Horizon it is better but I noticed that a few times that the receiver woould loose the signal and the DSM receiver goes to failsafe. It doesn't happen with my other servo KO 2123 though. I guess I should install a capacitor just to be safe.

In regards to trimming the antenna...
In the manual it says you can trim the wire down to 3.6"
I would like to make it as short as possible but I am understandably nervous about cutting the antenna wire on my brand new Spektrum.
Does it need to be exactly 3.6 inches or can it be a little longer?
If it does need to be exact then where should I measure the length from, where it exits the receiver case or where it connects to the circuit board inside?
