Spektrum

I ran a preliminary test on my DSM system for my 3pk yesterday in my MTX-3. I ran a few laps at my local club track and it performed flawlessly. Since my MTX-3 is my big-track car, it will get its big test this coming Sunday at our local big track were the TX Biggie and Touring Car Nationals will be held this year. I am pleased at the preliminary results so far. Now, if I can only trust the single-unit receivers currently on the market to convert my other cars.

Ran my Futaba Spektrum system this weekend. Worked as advertised. NO glitches, hit or spanks. The track is notoriously bad for glitches. Not a one for me this weekend. I ran 1/8th scale buggy. There were approx. twenty people running Spektrums in various forms. No problems with any. I asked everyone and all I got were grins. One guy had an early M8 version and had the lag on carpet at a national event. New one worked great.
Count me in as a believer. I plan to convert the rest of my cars to this technology.

did you try pressing the bind button with a small tip like a pencil or pen?

Well, I've had my JR R-1 outfitted with the DSM Spektrum. I'm running it on 1/8th scale buggy, 6.0v batt, JR digital steering, JR Z590 throttle/brake. So far, no problems, the steering servos seems to really light up, but that may be my imagination.
I was so happy, I ordered an extra Spektrum receiver. Got it a few days ago, tried to bind it to the transmitter...binding unsuccessful. The receiver acts like the bind button isn't doing anything. So far I'm batting .500 with the spektrum technology and I guess I'm not extremely happy about the delay (I have to ship the bad receiver back to horizonhobby) but hey, I still am happy to be part of the "new age of RC"

I would agree, the button is not that great. you really have to push and feel the "click" before it works.
I tried mine out this weekend, no problems. Yeah only a little running so far, but its just as fast a response as the other recievers I have.

I purchased two complete Futaba units and 2 extra Receivers this last week and ran this this weekend. They all bound fine and seemed to work until we got to the track. Only one of the 4 had no issues. The other three seemed to have a lag or delay on the back stretch of hte track - about 125 to 150 feet away from the drivers stand. I called Horizon today and they are going to verify the software in all 4 even though the one worked fine. The tech said that it sounded like a latency problem and that the upgraded software would fix that issue. I am glad that they are confident in the fix and I hope that this works because it was too cool to not have to worry about freq pins, glitches or interference on the one that did work as advertised!
I have to confess that the 2 stand alone Rxs were in the store since the original M8s shipped, so I am not surprised that those needed updating. But the one Rx that did not work came from the new Futaba System. Tech at Horizon said that it may have "slipped" through without updating at the factory overseas. The one Rx that worked flawlessly came with the other Futaba System!

I got my KO unit last week and it seems to run fine when testing on my street. However, I have noticed this issue a few times already. On the bench when I power it on, the system binds (both rx and rx lights go solid green) but the steering and throttle trim is slightly off. If I turn the system off and back it seems to correct itself. Does this mean its defective ? Also, from your experiences is it the receiver that has the problem ? Thanks.

actually had to work yesterday. so did not have a chance to call them. I will do that today. and let you guys know.
update. just called them and no they will not give me credit and send out a new one or allow me credit toward a new on at the lhs. my only option is to wait. I did ask again about the back order. and he said best guess is mid month, but had no confirmation of that.

called adams and he was able to take care of me.
I guess I was special. He told me that most all the problems with the rx was in the programming and just a hand ful (<10) actually had problems with the rx that could not be re-programmed. He did appologize to me for the problems I faced when talking with support. Since I was a special case, he would would have been notified, but was at a trade show. So now that he is in the office, he is shipping me one out asap. so that I may be dsm'ing
You guys were correct, Horizon has the service that people talked about. I just happen to fall through the cracks. my good luck I guess.
Adams also told me that if the rx binds very quickly that would be the newer unit and the older ones tend to bind a little bit slower. And now that I have one to compare and use (or at least very soon) I can compare any new purchases to this one.
thanks again Adams

John Adams is THE man at Spektrum, and has been doing a lot of work personally to make sure the systems are working and everyone is happy. Here is just another example of such service.
It's unfortunate that the sqeaky wheel syndrome played a part here, but whatever...
Kudos to John for taking the time to track down just about any complaint from the thousands of customers, and do his best to make it right.
