Thanks for the answer!

I don't think 450 microfarad is enough. Have to use 4700.

Yes, the NEGATIVE side of the cap is the marked side.

If your spektrum worked without the cap, then it must not need it. Or its the newer receiver or whatever.

So spektrum is telling people to use the cap?

Wheres my $$ for that?!?!?!:flaming:

Hey at least some acknowledgement would be cool.....

So is it 450mf or 4700mf we need to use? How much of a difference between the two or does it matter? (without getting too electronically detailed, I'm challenged in that area) lol.

It was a 4700mf in my car at the nats.

Anyone able to comment on response speed against KO Advanced HSR speed? Did you feel any different between Advanced HSR and DSM?

Thanks,

I have been running my Spectrum (received a first batch unit) with a Quantum 2 (running the Worlds Kit large capaciter) and an Airtronics 94360Z servo on an indoor carpet track. I have had nothing but flawless service to date. Not even a hint of a glitch.

The 4700microF will store more energy than the 450microF. . .but since we're not really talking about too much (at least in my case) the 450 worked fine and is a lot smaller.

Basically, go with as small as you can get away with - if the 450 doesn't solve the problem, try a 750 (still cheap). . .or a 1000. . .

if you get them from Radio Shack (same thing. . .) they're pretty cheap. . .

when i was at the cactus, i heard that if you leave the rx on for a period of time about a min or 2min before turning the tx on you will cause a hicup; with symptions of lag.

I am surprised 450 even made a difference.

Thats very little capacitance at 6 volts (or 4.8)

I tried a much smaller cap like that and it made no difference.

went to radio shack today and man, is that 4700 cap HUGE! like 2 inch long and an inch in diameter>>>(its going in a losi bk2) the 1000's look more appealing for taking up space if they'll work? thoughts anyone?

The 4700mF cap John gave me at the Nats was about the same size as the large cap supplied with the LRP Quantum ESC.

For the record, my car worked fine without the cap, John had me run it "just in case".

Looking at a large voltage capacitor where we? :) try a 10Volt one..

Capacitor Electrolytic 4700uF 10V: Size 16mm dia x 30 mm

TeamTazman 03-29-2005 07:18 PM

Thanks for the fast replys. I have no idea on the voltage specs of the cap I looked at. It was the only 4700 they had. It looked bigger than a half role of quarters! I'll look elsewhere in town. Thanks everyone for the help.

Tazman- the Novak 4700microfarad cap that you can buy indiviually at the hobby shop is the one you need.

Pitcrew- in the past I have used very small caps on my receiver to eliminate glitches. Given, this wasn't with a Spektrum unit but the idea is basically the same- to smooth voltage drops when high amp load spikes happen. You must remember that those spikes only happen for a few milliseconds at a time and the voltage usually doesn't drop much under 6V so while it might be enough to cause a glitch, it doesn't require much capacitance to smooth out. My best guess is that John was using the 4700uF cap as a "cover-all" to be sure there was more than enough capacitance for every situation.

For those anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Futaba version, IT HAS ARRIVED. Got mine tonight, and it worked flawlessly. For a further review, see the post under the Futaba Spektrum thread.
