Must be a bad batch. Mine has been operating flawlessly.

I'm sure Horizon will replace the faulty ones.

I do believe it is a good product , but when a number of people have very diffrent problems ;seems to me the manuf. would take the time ,if they havent already and improved alittle more .. Ill just wait for a while then get it when its more realiable .. Im know with all new products r& d gets pushed to the limits ... and the buying public has more to say about the products they buy ..

I ran mine for the first time today and it was awesome no problems at all.hope anyone with problems get them resolved i beleive this is a great system.

Hmmm....

From Stormer's website:

Warranties and Guarantee's:
All warranties and guarantee's, including missing items, are handled directly by the original manufacturer of that item and should be sent to them, not Stormer Hobbies. Due to the high performance nature of the items we sell there are no returns on any opened or electronic merchandise.

Seeing that it's a pretty new untested technology one must accept there are going to be "hiccups." Current radio technology has been perfected over years and years. I was surprised to hear once when visiting Novak that they have to test their equipment in all cars (they were referring to TC since it seems to be the most problematic) to see if there are any problems. They found that sometimes it would work fine in standard plastic kits and then when it was the graphite version it had problems (referring to ESC/RX).

The sample we got for testing was one of the first 6 (I'm assuming the same batch as Mr. Pond). I ran it in a Nitro Spyder RTR and in a Thinder Tiger S3 with Digital servos with no problems. After all that testing I went to use it in my BK2 for a race and ran into some trouble. I brought it back and got a new one. I haven't run that one yet, but we do have another one that has been used in all vehicles again with no problems or lag issues.

So there will be some problems at this point with some units because it's the first batch. In the real world first year cars and new technology actually has a very high failure rate because they are not only testing a new technology but mass produced. You CAN NOT find out mass production problems until it's in mass production. This happens everywhere in life. How they handle those problems is the real test and I think Horizon has done a great job thus far. Some peoples stories about contacting Horizon may be "exxagerated" a bit since we all do that to make us look better :)

Derek: as I am the only person I can remember that posted regarding contacting Horizon, I wonder if you are referring to me.

I quoted directly from the email I sent them, and directly from their reply. There is no exaggeration involved.

DerekB 02-20-2005 01:06 PM

I'm not saying you, sorry. I just think sometimes we make ourselves look better than the conversation really went.

I believe thus far i am the only one who has gone into detail on my experience with horizon and it was to the "T" as per what happened!!!!!!!! Let me also add this....... I called horizon before i installed the spektrum in my car with a few questions . I spoke with a guy in their tech support dept. All the questions i asked him he answered by reading a tech manual . He told me and i quote " We have not yet held one of these in our hands yet , all we know is what we have seen in pictures" Horizon so far has done nothing. They dont even have units set aside for warranty issues such as these. I understand this is a new product to them and to the r/c industry , but for such a large company to put their name on a product this big they should have done alot more home work. Anyone thinking i "exxagerated" or exaggerated may call josh or steve at horizon , they know me on a first name basis now.:sneaky:

I race at local indoor carpet track and have been running the specktrum and have not had any problems. The track is located in an outlet mall. I just think some one always has to have some thing negitive to say!

N4S 02-20-2005 05:14 PM

i dont think thats the case at all. Some of these have worked without any problems , some have had servo issues , and some have not worked at all. People are up here defending this product because they got one that worked............ When it should be horizon doing the explaining to its customers who have had the problems. Its obvious they wont step up to the plate when someone e-mails or calls them and they deny they know these problems exist.

Rob Phillips 02-20-2005 05:26 PM

I for one can't wait to see this technology perfected. I just hope it's perfected by the time they release it for Futaba. The black wire on my speedo(I just had to say something negetive):sneaky:

rcracer255 02-20-2005 05:36 PM

At the track I race at the guys from Horizon have been running this for along time and I haven't heard or had any problems yet. Lets just hope for everyone that has had a problem they get it fixed because it is nice to have the freedom that the system gives you.

I wasn't saying anything about you. Understand the Horizon is the distributor, Spektrum is the company. In a way it's like calling them about a problem with your Associated or NovaMega engine. They really aren't the people to go for tech support :)

BigDogRacing 02-20-2005 05:45 PM

LOL @ Rob Phillips

I agree Rob. I purchased the M8 combo plus another reciever. I suspect some of my problems were related to the unit but I'm not going to lay blame without further testing. Some people notice differences right away while I usually seem to unconciously "adapt" and don't always notice the differences. Sounds weird but I've found this to be true in other things as well. Maybe I'm a little dain bramaged...

Anyway, laptimes prove that I was definately slower and less consistent after changing over.

I too look forward to when this technology is perfected- especially since I help run the races here in Memphis and the Spektrum system will DEFINATELY make the races run smoother and with much less problems.:sneaky:

I say let's quit bitching and try to help Spektrum any way we can. Don't call or email them and fuss or complain, better yet document your results and if you have a problem, check and double check EVERYTHING that might be a factor. Take the time to try different servos etc. and make notes as you go, then list all of your compnents, findings and racing conditions including lighting, etc then email all of this info to Horizon or the link from the Spektrum website.

If my problems really are related to the Spektrum then I'm out well over $200 just like the rest of you, but I want to help fix the problem instead of creating more problems for them.

This post is NOT directed at any one person- we all need to work together for the betterment of our hobby. Do you realize how great this can eventually be for newbies? Just one less thing to get frustrated about and quit or wonderful hobby.;)
