Tazfam2, who told you that they are incompatible? Is this from your experience or direct from the Speed Passion? I would like to know if this is solid info from them so as not to have any issues. So far I have had a month of club racing and have had no issues with temps. My motor is temping at about 112 degrees and the speedo is barely getting warm with the included fan.

Sal

I have done some testing with the 4 pole motors and they work sometimes then poof they are gone. Have worked a little with speed passion on this. I agree they do work for a while them they burn up.

so will the GT2.1 work on the 4 pole 4600 as well or just the GT2.0?

I know for a fact it will work with the GT 2.0 pro never tried the 2.1. At the local track there are several people running the gt pro with no issues with that motor. I personally wouldnt try it as they
may blow up real fast. Use it at your own risk

Cain 01-31-2013 09:51 AM

GT2.0 Pro only on 2S. (not sure of 3S)

Silver Arrow V2 on 4S (though, have heard it does work on 2S and aparrently if the run is true, its sister ESC the xerun version is rated for 2S usage)

mxracer458 01-31-2013 10:45 AM

how does the r version compare to the rs tekin esc?always ran tekins and had no issues with them but for the price of these and being able to set up the esc via smartphone is nice. How performance and durability?I only run blinky 17.5 off road.

Not sure on the comparison but once you go speed passion you will not use anything else. Really good for 17.5..Been using them since they 1st came out years ago..best part is setup at the track with no laptop..

Sal....I would like to know what PROGRAM you were using with the Tekin 4 poles with the Reventon PRO. Tazfam2 has been testing this combo for months and he was testing it with the Losi SCTE when running on a 200 foot long indoor clay track....and running with STOCK1 (Boost, Turbo) program....

The problem we have is...the ESC will last good 2-3 race day and it will suddenly BURN....and this happened to 4 of the PRO that I have them to try and all happened around the same time. And I have this confirmed with 2-3 drivers. So the testing has been done and the outcome is confirmed...and we are working on revising the hardware and will see how to make it compatable with the 4 poles motor...

The same result happened to the TENSHOT 4 poles motor too....same result.

I am very intersted to know are you only running MOD1 or MOD2 software, instead of using STOCK1 boost software...

Cain 01-31-2013 11:33 AM

solara: I guess I am a bit confused why you guys didn't test it with software other than the stock one unless that isn't what you meant? what about blinky software?

with 4 poles, other than the turbo timing haven't seen a useable benefit to anything else.

they would be great for 17.5 blinky Or you can go with the pro or the gt2.0 pro also

Solara,

I am running the Modify 2 software
V1.1.0.22
Firmware mod2-v20-dad4 or Y (reading a note, not the programmer. Shitty handwriting, lol.)

Settings

Forward w Brake, No Reverse
3.2 cutoff
Timing 18.75
DMTS 3.0
DMRS ? 3.0 level 2
ABS 25%
Drag 0
Initial Brake Force 25%

Vehicle:
Associated SC10 4x4
Gearing 13/62 FDR=12.26
Tekin Pro4 4000

Track is Island Raceway and Hobbies. Long Island NY
100 or so by 40-50 feet in size. 100 would be the straightaway. Clay/dirt mix. Fair amount of medium sized jumps....one crossover (its new for this weeks Sat Trophy race). I am a regular there and I am running the smallest Pro4. The other guys run the 4600 and its overkill.
Traction....awesome! So much so that most of us are using slicks! (gasp).
My motor temps at 115 degrees after a full pack of practice....after quals and racing its barely 100.
ESC is cool to the touch when it comes off....that fan does a great job!

I emailed tech support...they got back to me very quickly. They have told me that the combo isnt supported (I never checked before purchasing).

Hard choice to make now....I will probably have to swap out motors not to blow ESC. Sad part is that the performance is spectacular. I have been top 3 since installing the Rev Pro! Im always up there but now its been TQ and 1st place on a regular basis.

Hope this helps.

Sal

Cain 01-31-2013 01:07 PM

Maybe speed passion should work with you as a tester since you are getting it to actually work without issues.

The ESC being able to run 4 pole motors would be a BIG plus, especially since it appears to be more powerful than the GT2.0 Pro, and is smaller than the other escs used in the class.

As a side question for Solara, those 550 Silver Arrow V2 motors, what size rotors do they use?

Also, any advice on that issue I reported about my 12.5 super seven rotor fitting the bearings very snug, basically no in and out action.

From what I know...most ppl using the ESC and 4 poles motor are running SUPERCHARGER software on SCT 4x4....thats why we are testing the ESC based on that and it failed. But if SAL is using it on MOD0 to Mod2 software, he SHOULD NOT have any problem at all....Mod0 to Mod2 does not have BOOST....just static timing.

That explained it...........Tazfan2 and all my drivers were all testing it with BOOST/TURBO on a 250 foot National track with 4 poles motor...and that failed. And your testing is almost confirmed me that ONLY the boost/turbo are the reason that burn the ESC. We have tested the 4 poles motor with Mod0 Mod 1 and Mod2 software with static Timing, NO PROBLEM at all....just the BOOST really pop the ESC for whatever reason.

If you are continuing using the 4 poles motor with only Mod0 to Mod2 software, you are SAFE to use 4 poles motor....

PastaBoyNY 01-31-2013 01:53 PM

Glad to be of help.....

Solara,

Below you will find my mailing back and forth to Tech.
As per what they say, they state they have not tested those combos yet.

Obviously you will have to read it from the bottom UP since I didnt want to cut and paste it in the opposite order to maintain integrity.

Hello Sal,

yes, we are testing and updating the software to run the 4 pole.

thank you

And from Tekin Tech Support on the Boost front:

Sal,

The Pro 4's are between 1.5 and 2.5 turn motors, both wye and delta.
These motors don't like nor work well with "boost."

Soooo....Its still a bit of a mystery. They say it hasnt be tested and you are telling me that a few guys have done so.

Begs the question....and I mean NO disrespect here, Where do you fit into the picture with Speed Passion?

Enthusiast?
Team Driver?
Owner?
Employee?
Beta Tester?

If you like you can answer that privately.
I feel bad to even ask, but would like to know where you stand with them so as to know how to disseminate the infomation gleaned from this thread.

AGAIN, no disrespect is meant on my part with this question.

I am willing to provide my feedback.....Weekly racing is in my blood again, lol.

Always willing to advertise and promote good products too. The guys where I race have started using Speed Passion products after seeing results. At first they were probably annoyed at me ranting and raving about how GOOD this ESC felt and performed. One test drive and they were hooked!

Whew...that was long winded. Sorry for the long post.
Hope I have been of some help to the guys following the thread!

One last thing.
Tech support was amazing at how quickly they got back to me. Im SOLD on that alone seeing as I am in the Service/Sales/Customer Service field myself. They just get it....A happy customer is a repeat customer!

Sal

Cain 01-31-2013 02:15 PM

Just so I can confirm here, When you guys were testing it it had timing going all through the RPM range, not just at Wide Open Throttle, Correct?

I use the Pro4 Tekin with WOT turbo timing I believe its called, but even then we are talking like 5 degrees total. Pro4 style motors really don't like timing. Mainly used WOT / turbo timing to get back some top end, while dropping the pinion size to compensate for heat. Worked very well, temps dropped 20 degrees and still had what I needed. GT2.0 Pro here.

Solara 01-31-2013 03:34 PM

I think I have to explain to others about PROTOTYPE TESTING.

We don't test the esc with any motor, or some motor, or only our motor...in this case, the 4 poles motors, which is considered NEWER to the market, and they are out there AFTER we have the Reventon software/hardware developed...which is heavily based on 2 POLES motor like the 540 size. Because the ESC is mainly concentrated on ON ROAD and OFF ROAD 1/10th scale...

1/10th SCT 4x4 is the ODD CLASS....a class that is only ran in USA heavily and a class that allow 1/8th cars and run as a 1/10th...and running only on 2 cells lipo, on a 1/8th car. Now...the 4 poles. It need the TURBO SOFTWARE/BOOST in order to be competitive...so, we accepted that and test it, and it failed. And it ONLY FAILED because it is on 4 poles motor, which is NOT something very popular, until now.

Testing need to be done with the EXTREME setting and condition, we cannot CONTROL how customer setup their ESc and motor and expect everyone are Atsushi Hara. Once we sees the problem and when we see the limit, we have to draw the line....in this case, we don't think the ESC are capable to handle 4 poles motor when running BOOST SUPERCHARGER software....which MOST of the ppl who ran 4 poles motor on 4x4 SCT will use....

Overall....after we have been tested, we all know that our Reventon PRO ESC does not last (it will work for a short period of time) when running the 4 poles motor with BOOST/TURBO only software. But because of that....due to the LIABILITY reason, we have to call it out, the ESC is not compatable with the 4 poles motor. It is simply because, we cannot explain to every single user that our ESC can only work with 4 poles motor IF you are not running BOOST supercharger software...it will work with blinky but not STOCK1....it is just way too much work for me and our driver to tell everyone...and we can simply tell them to use the GT2 PRO ESC and we are hooping in the future, we can have the REVENTON PRO to work with 4 poles motor even we are running the boost software with full boost and supercharger in 3 cells...

But until that time....we are simply saying it wlll NOT work with 4 pole motor.

If there are any concern about this...feel free to PM me directly.
