Ok I need some help/ I have a viper 8.5, novak GTB in a sc10. It is currently geared 21/84 and adv the timming to 40deg. it runs at 130 after a 10 min run and this thing is only slightly faster than my balistic 10.5 with same exact gearing, with the adv timing I do love how smooth it is out of the hole. I put in a friends novak 8.5ss geared 18/84 (the recomended starting point for 8.5) and it will shit all over my viper 8.5 with the 21 gear. I started at 18 and it wouldnt out run a 17.5 great temp though it was only about 90 deg after like 15 min. So my 1st question is do I keep gearing with stock timing till I get to like 150 deg? or can I leave tinming where it is add another gear or 2? which is better?

I must have had something set up wrong I put the esc in my 2wh buggy with a 13.5 and added boost and timing and it ran like a 21.5 I need help with the pro gauge.
In general, a lower start rpm for the acc boost will be more aggressive and create more heat. As well as a lower finish rpm for acc boost will be more aggressive and add the acceleration boost timing more quickly, as well as initiate the top speed timing earlier.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I can't get a 17.5 to run any faster with boost than in blinky. I have tried small increments of timing, large increments of timing. In a short course truck I have geared from 6.0 fdr to 9.5 fdr and nothing; it is a pooch. I have tried to understand the timing theory to see if it was my ignorance that is the factor, but my other companies speedo's seem to do what this can't. One thing I have noticed though; endbell timing on the viper motors have more impact than the speedo timing. I am hoping that with a 9.5 in a 2wd buggy it will be enough, cause it is coming out of my sct.
From what I can gather you may have been trying to boost a 9.5 in your SC? Which truck exactly? What gearing? Did you just start with a preset profile? Which one? None of the pre-sets are really appropriate for a boosted 9.5. How large/open of a track are you running? What did you gear it? For a boosted 9.5 in a 2wd SC you will probably need to be gearing around a 15-16/87. Like I said, our boost function creates massive rpm the lower the loading. Be careful when bench testing... http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7159809_n.jpg |
something happened to your tires. lol

mini-dub,
My normal setup in the sc truck with tekin systems has been 17.5 geared at 75/24-26. Timing maxed in the esc. I tried the vtx10 w/viper 17.5 geared from 78/21 all the way to 72/31. With small amounts of esc timing, 10/10, all the way to 40/40. With the 72/31 gearing in blinky mode, it was the fastest, but that was also with the endbell timing all the way up. With that gearing the motor came off the track at 130* after 3 minutes, but the air temp was only 60*. But you are saying I need to go lower than 78/21 with timing, even though the car was topped out after about 25-30 feet? |
are you running a 72/31 in a sc10? that combo is about 20% over geared, a 7.5 fdr is usually a good starting point for a sc, and if you are goin to add boost from a esc you will prolly wanna be around 8.5fdr , so a 75/23 would be close. adding motor timing is only gonna add to the top end but on the same token kill your tourque, normally on boosted escs you leave your motor timing at default or if anything retard it for more torque and add timing on the esc to give you top end and keep your motor cool, im just speaking in general because i havent got my vtx yet

High speed, open, flowing tracks definitely require a different gearing/timing setup than tight, punchy tracks (which is more what my starting recommendation there is oriented for, so if you're running on a large high speed track you may want to gear up 1-2t). Some people have had good results with boosted VST/VTX combos turning the motor timing down to 15-20* and increasing the max adv esc settings 10-15* to compensate. This may be something to try as well. |
