Any eta on the a64 firmware for the vtx10? Also, what changes? I know the difference between the a30 and a55 was huge. I am told new esc's have the a64 on them, so I assume we will get the firmware very soon.

I have been testing it for a bit now. I haven't bought any new esc's lately so I can't confirm that they are shipping with 64 in them. Until Nick tells us otherwise, it's still a test software.

I can't really say much more than that, other than you know us. We don't release it until it's ready. And when we do release new stuff, we aren't shy about it :D

Yea like I posed a page or two back I got a VTX10BE from the trade in program this week with a sheet that says it has a64 on it and that it was released on 2/1/14. I PMed Nick and he said that it was released and the holdup was the web developer. That said I followed up asking if I could just have a link and he didn't respond.

Another Viper team member reported to me that I would love it, he is seeing lower temps and more power. Sounds great to me...I'd love to put it on my other 3 Viper ESCs before the next Bumps points race. What are your thoughts/findings on a64 Bob?

Wildcat1971 02-26-2014 09:39 AM

hmm, so odd that they are shipping the a64 firmware, but not posting it for current users for upgrade. more power and lower temps. That is like having your cake and eating it too. lol

I know right? Again Nick's comment was that they have directed the web developer to post it but the update hasn't happened yet. He said "Should have been done already, we are shipping products with the new software installed. Should be any day now."

Sorry if I wasn't supposed to post that Nick...I'll pull it if you would like.

I have been testing a few different esc's as of late. Orion, HW, Tekin, Viper and a couple other misc ones. The most imporant factors for me were: size, weight, tunability, smooth brakes and throttle, and support. IMO, the viper came out on top overall. It was not the best in each category, but best overall. The tekin is way smaller and lighter, very tunable, but the brakes felt binary. The orions and HW based esc's are nice, but just so big and heavy. Todays cars have very limited chassis space. I really like (liked, since its gone) the low profile caps mounted on top. After finding out that viper has gone to pig tails, I though about changing the winner, but honestly smooth brake and throttle feel are just weighted more for me. I find the huge cap to be just annoying. As far as esc tuning, since tekin does not have the hotwire app working correct yet, the viper with its inexpensive pro gauge won out.

Anyway, the vipers are as smooth as anything on the market, small and very tunable. The massive cap is annoying, it cant do sensorless and its solder posts can be pain. But performance and support are top notch.

My 2 cents for any one looking to pickup vipers and wanted to know how they compare.

My favorites were in this order:
Vtx10
Tekin gen2 rs
Hobbywing v3 or v2.1
Orion R10 Pro

The novak and LRP esc's are just way behind the times and not to my liking.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Nick said it was a hold up with the actual website.

Still, you guys know the drill. Until it's officially announced, we can't comment on specifics.

We are currently working to get a64 out to everyone - yes, we are waiting to have it posted on the website. We have been working internally to update units so new ones going out, already have the latest software installed. I am sure there are some distributors or dealers that have stock with the old software, but ideally that will get turned over quickly. Meanwhile we keep updating -- check the pick below -- two VLinks - non stop!!!

Wow you guys are not only doing 2 at once you're doing it while standing on your heads....

Sorry couldn't resist.

So out of curiosity I wasn't aware that there were actually separate versions of a55 for the orange version and the black version of the ESC. I'm pretty sure I used the same version (and I forget which it is) on all of my Viper fleet when it came out. What's the difference between the two? And I'm guessing that a64 also has separate versions?

Bob Barry 02-26-2014 01:39 PM

Ta daa!

Yes, there are different versions for different esc's. All the details will be coming soon along with the proper links.

To a man, every person who has used 64 has said it is better. I have it in my BE and my OE and ran them in both mod and stock. Just better across the board. You guys will love it!

nikos2002 02-26-2014 01:43 PM

wow you guys that quick on track also -- I couldn't fix the pic fast enough.

Yes, there are very slight differences between orange and black editions, from general operation, you would never tell the difference. But with the software it is like .1% different, so yes there are different versions.

And yes, it does feel like I am on my head, as I have another 60 or so VTX8's to update!!! :tire::tire: :batman:

Cain 02-26-2014 01:55 PM

thats pretty cool you guys are updating stuff in house like that.

Some companies would just say screw it and ship it, and you then have to install.
