I'm also running no timing on the motor...would moving to about 20 degrees cool it or does more timing always mean more heat?

are you running boosted?
adjusting the throttle punch setting may help a little.

I know this has been addressed before but I've got a Hakko 888 soldering station with a 5.2mm tip and I'm trying to unsolder the stock power wires so I can lay them down a bit more.

I'm not even really putting a dent in the stock solder at 675deg for 10sec with a freshly tinned clean tip.

I'm kind of worried I'm gonna do some dmg if I put much more heat into it. Is there some black magic to get them unsoldered or do I just blast it with heat and pray for the best?

Set the tip onto the solder joint and feed a bit of fresh solder in. The liquid solder will help conduct heat directly down onto the joint and it should work out for you. Hope that helps.

I'll see if that's the key to getting it.

I was putting some solder on the tip but didn't try feeding a little more to help removal.

What is the continuous current amperage on a VTX10R?

Toyman 02-02-2014 06:04 AM

Simple question : is VTX8 compatible with gen2 Tekin 1/8 motors?

DaveG28 02-02-2014 08:14 AM

Ok to give a complete breakdown of my setup and hopefully what can alleviate temps:

4wd buggy with 6.5t motor with 0 degree can timing
Vtx10BER with I assume no boost/timing, eg I have never entered the "power" part of the settings
Punch 65%
In misc controls forward power set to 90%
Throttle Pwm 12000

I can coming off the track with the motor just over 200 degree's (measured inside the motor through a hole.

I will try adding a couple of fans one to push air on and one to pull it away, but what else can I try on the esc!?

Also, I assume as std all the advanced timing stuff is off/set to minimum already right? I've never used that menu!

DaveG - Make sure you are in Race Blinky mode (Misc Tab - Mode). Motor heat will generally come from gearing, so how would that compare I didn't see it listed. Internally, motors can quite easily measure 200*, externally they should not.

Toyman - Simple answer yes.

gawith - area of 120amp

Barge - get the spot you are trying to solder hot with the tip first, then feed in some solder to get it all flowing.

Question..

I have a E 3.0, Tekin Gen1 2050 buggy motor with a Vtx8.

Sometimes when I turn it on (randomly) it almost seems as if its in limp mode. Now if I turn off my transmitter and unplug my battery it will most likely reset.

Sometimes I have to do this a few times for it to work.

There is another racer at the track that experiences the same problem as well.

I've switched to viper from tekin and look forward to using it more!

Are you saying that when you turn it on, you have steering but not throttle? if so, it might not be finding neutral on your radio. Next time it does it, try clicking your throttle trim forward or back a few notches. Once it finds the point that it was programed at, it will finish booting. Some radios lose their trim setting.

McGuire 02-02-2014 07:18 PM

I have steering yes, but I also have a limited amount of throttle.

Best way I can describe it would be as if your real car had a misfire while giving throttle.

It acts as if a cylinder is misfiring lol. I know that's an odd way to describe it.

McGuire 02-02-2014 07:19 PM

But it's not cogging etc. It happens directly after the initial "hit".

silvalis 02-02-2014 07:36 PM

The first things you should probably do are:
1) change to an empty profile and setup from scratch
2) change your sensor cable
3) Try a different battery.

McGuire 02-02-2014 08:02 PM

Any other ideas?

I've have multiple batteries, and the fellow racer has tried changing channels. I've tried the sensor wire as well.

No one else has had this issue?

high speed mode on ch2. turn it off.
