Makes sense. If you are holding that button for three seconds it should turn off regardless.

I know with my Futaba 4PL, if there is any perceived signals, the ESC will not shut down so I have to basically turn the radio off. To me at least, I can't think of a situation where if I am trying to shutdown the ESC directly that the ESC needs to prevent that from happening if it gets a signal from the radio.

Hmm...I use the 4PL and have run into thus a few times. Always wondered why I couldn't shut off my esc.

I have also run into the same issue from time to time and Im using a dx3r.

awesome at least I am not the only one lol.

When I would kind of give throttle, it would then go enough that I coudl shut it off, however, doing all that together with trying to turn the vehicle off was a problem. easier to just shut off the radio, but I hate doing that as well as who knows if you get a runaway (you shouldn't but futabas like to bind to stuff nearby)

My understanding (sorry mechanical degree not electrical) is that if the software is 'running' some of the other feature that work via the switch are not able to active - hence it won't shut off if not in neutral.

Will bring it up to the software engineers and see what they say.

To answer the question about when to update your software. For the VTX1, and VTX10 series, about a year ago we updated at a55 and its been great but as always we are looking at tweaks. For VTX8, we updated to a61 about Jan 2013 to resolve the stutter caused by high amp draw 4 pole motors on 2s batteries. Everything currently be sold by our partners as retails should be up to date.

When we have some new software, for the general public we will certainly let everyone know!!!

I got to run my viper last night and needless to say i am impressed. It ran flawless, plenty of power, buttery smooth throttle and brakes and it ran cool.

I may have to get me one of the motors when they are released as well.

the only thing that i really wish is that the esc was a little smaller.

Hi guys, does the viper software work on windows 8?

Am wondering if a surface pro (the ones with full windows 8) would work as a computer to hook these too!

Thinking of trying one of these as I won a gift certificate to Viper today at a race. How are the vtx8's holding up and comparing to tekins? From a racer please. I run all rx8's at moment

I have always been a tekin guy myself. I ran my viper for the 1st time last night and it was everything the tekin was.

I've got both. I like the smoothness of the VTX8 better. The programmability is way better with the progauge too. And from a build quality standpoint....its not even close. The VTX8 is a monster.

I just got my new Viper VTX8 installed in my caster SCT... I can't wait to drive it...

I am told it does work with Windows 8. Don't know if the Surface comes with full windows or a mobile version. Would be curious to know -- might have to ask the boss for the Surface!!!:sneaky::sneaky:

I think I am going to try my Viper VTX8's via the PC adapter this week and see what all is there. The handheld programmer has spoiled me though that I can't imagine going with another ESC that didn't have it lol.

No doubt. I watched a guy yesterday complain about no wifi at the track and needing to update the firmware in his Castle ESC or in the program card or something to get it to work together. Meanwhile I just plugged in my ProGauge and adjusted my settings and went on my merry way. :D

nikos2002 10-28-2013 11:52 AM

The only differences in using VLink is the ability to update the firmware if its out of date (newest version will always be on VLink) and save your profiles into a file for future or or to email to others.

Other than that, all the setting options are exactly the same as ProGauge and EZLink, just more more graphical. There are added descriptions, but they are the same as the instruction manual.

All and all its still fun to play with.
