I basically just let it run to motor over-temp with the limit set at 220. External measurements were around 165. I then jacked the cut off up to 230 and tried it again. Checking the external temp I was about 175 (go figure). Knowing I didn't want to get a whole lot over 180, I set the cut off to 240. Unfortunately, the next time it thermalled, I wasn't able to get to it and measure the motor temp right away. Either way, I shouldn't be hitting these temps. There's a fair amount of wheel spin on my home track but I've never hit cut off before with the same setup.
I had the same Prob with my sons VTX10 with 7.5 seemed to get it under control alittle more now running about 150 160 in 10 min I know your running 8.5 but worth a try I think.

Brake strength 65%
Brake Freq 6400HZ
Drag brake 0
Thr Freq 12000HZ
Punch 70 but if its dry I run 60
Motor temp cutoff 230
Ecs 200
20 Deg timing on Motor ONLY
NO TIMING OR BOOST IN ESC

20/87 GEARING its not crazy fast but still fast on our BIG 1/8 scale track with 80-100 foot straight and our track can be VERY loose

I ordered him a new one to see if it would be colder but it was DOA so its Returned and im waiting for it to return His b4.1 doesn't give him any trouble at all runs Perfect even with little boost and little timing

I have one in my truggy. Haven't seen temps about 120 degrees. I'd have to disagree with your friend.

There would be no problem running it in a truggy. I run it in my SC8. It has a truggy chassis.

It runs up to 1:8 motors and handles up to 6s packs. What else do you need?

The funny thing about 1/8 ESC market is that every one I know has either a Tekin or Hobbywing. Everyone I know makes remarks about the RX8 on how many case/fans/ESC's they go through. I have had my VTX8 since it came out. Not only has the case held up to the abuse (esc coming loose and rubbing against the drive shaft) the fan has never given me trouble. This thing is the tank of 1/8 esc market. Hopefully people will get over the Tekin rage and get something durable. I know the Tekins were out first and thats why I believe you get so many Tekin fanboys. I know alot of people are affraid to try something new. That's the reaction I seem to get when asked why I bought it. The only explanation needed is to ask that person how many RX8's they have burned up.

I am trying something new with the VTX8s myself, and I have used Castle's MM, MMM, and MMP, Tekin's RX8 Gen 1's, and Speed Passions SA V1's and V2s.

I am very hopeful to see the VTX8 out shine them all.

To be honest, I think the main thing that keeps some of the guys on the fence is the fact that the esc is sensored only. I know that has been the main reason for some guys I know not to try it.

I still don't get why people are all worked up over Sensored only but I guess to each their own.

Well, I think its two parts to be honest.

1st- When running Sensored only, if the sensor part fails at all during a race, you can continue racing in sensorless operation. How often this actually happens, to be honest I don't know. Heck, I was on the fence about it myself for awhile but the price and my desire to have a 1/8 scale style ESC with programmer for my 4x4 SCT lead me to Viper. Your warranty at 6 months (I think it was 12 but 6 is still best right now of 1/8 sensored ESCs, but, You can still work to beat castle ) also appealed to me.

2. It has been stated by other manufacturers from what I recall that when you switch from a sensored start to a sensorless operation, motor temps drop. Maybe ESC ones too but I don't recall well enough the discussion. How much this is true I don't know. I guess I am going to find out lol.

Those I think to me were the 2 biggest hangups I had prior to trying a Viper VTX8. If it was ever possible to get sensorless operation out of the VTX8s, you pretty much would kill the only argument I have heard against getting these instead of some other 1/8 ESC.

I noticed no difference in motor temps between my RX8 and VTX8 when running "similar" profiles. Same goes for esc temps. My VTX8 is simply faster and easier to change settings on and I don't even have to get into the difference in how they're built.
Also, in all my years of racing and bashing I've never had a sensor cable come out on the motor or esc end, nor have I ever had a sensor cable fail. Some INSIST that they do all the time. I guess they're just bad asses . If it were to happen and I dnf, I'm not gonna go home, slap the wife, beat the kid, and kick the dog. I'm not a sponsored pro racing for a world championship. I'm a grown man, and I'll act accordingly.

After setting up my VTX8 I have to push it to get it moving. Im pretty sure this problem happens to a handful of people, but when searching I couldn't find an answer or solution. This occurs sporadically...sometimes I need to "push start" it and other times it isn't needed. In any event, since it started it doesn't feel like a sensored setup when it happens, it cogs a little. Any help would be appreciated!
