With all the drag brake talk i've seen it got me thinking about it some myself. If i was to set my drag brake to 25% would that mean the first 25% of my trigger do nothing? Or is trigger breaking applied on top of drag break? So if my drag is set at 25% and I am using 25%trigger would that be 50% break? Or is the trigger break percentage figured after drag break? Say drag break is set to 25% and with the trigger at 25% the total breaking adds up to 43.75% Or does drag break only apply when the throttle is in the neutral position?
Sorry if it is worded poorly, really hard to phrase what I am thinking. Lol makes sense in my head. |

Drag brake applies braking off throttle to whatever percentage of braking you set it for and kicks in at the throttle neutral point. I only use it on my crawlers now to keep them from rolling down inclines. Being an older racer from the days of brushed motors, I used to use it when brushless first started. Older brushed motors based on how they worked created their own drag brake off throttle similar to down shifting in a real car. I simply no longer use it with brushless. I feel it's better and faster on a lap time to set up no drag brake and make proper use of brakes. I run faster that way. Just my 2 cents.

Drag brake can be a crucial setup element also. It can be used to give more steering, most particularly on higher grip tracks.
The drab brake function is there to let the ESC take some of the duties away from the driver. Setup and working correctly, it can make a hard to drive track easier. In November I was using as high as 65% drag brake at the Spektrum Off-Road Champs in Milwaukee (high-speed sweeper and high grip). If it is too high though, it can make the car easy to "loop out" on slick tracks. It takes a little getting used to because you will find yourself staying on the gas a little longer going into turns, IMO. |
Yea I understand how drag breaks work, and how to use them for the most part. I was just looking to get a better understanding of them so I could use them more effectively.

Good one too. Never thought of it. If you set drag brake at 20%, can you achieve 10% push brake? I'm interested in this reply too since I have so little experience with actually using drag brake. |

Not at all what I was saying. What I was phrasing had nothing to do with being on the throttle.

I can't say for fact, but it feels to me that the trigger brake is added to the drag brake. If drag brake was 25%, trigger brake would go from 25% to 100%.
I believe that the drag brake percentage setting is not actually the percentage of maximum brake. I too have had the drag brakes up at 65%. I don't think I could have kept the car straight if this was actually 65% of full brakes. Also, I can barely feel 10% drag brake but I have had other ESCs whereby 10% was very noticeable and sometimes too much. |
